6. To take the system down, first loosen the large nut on the faceplate. This will ease the pressure
on the cam. If it is still under tension, use a small pry-bar to loosen the red cam lever beneath
the drum. This will allow the rope to be pulled back through the tensioner, at which point the
lifeline may be detached from the anchorages. Be sure to check the rope segment that had
been engaged in the tensioner, and inspect for damage or wear.
3.2 – Installation: Rooftop Application
This system may be used in rooftop applications only when installed with two (2) FallTech #7432 Dual-
Truss Roof Anchor brackets. Before installation is attempted, consult the clearfall information in section
3.2 to ensure that the system can be rigged safely for your specific application. For best results we
recommend using a FallTech DuraTech Self-Retracting Lifeline or a FallTech #7595A Roofer's Kit in
conjunction with this HLL system and the Dual-Truss Roof Anchors.
1. Install two (2) #7432 Dual-Truss Roof Anchors in accordance with the instructions included with
the anchorages.
2. Your Checkline Temporary HLL Kit was shipped completely assembled and ready for use. The
rope was properly threaded through the tensioner at the factory. Check the tensioner for proper
function, ensuring that the drum rotates and that the cam lever engages the rope. To check for
proper engagement, attach a #8447 carabiner to the tensioner ring. Holding the carabiner in
one hand, grab the swivel end of the rope in the other and pull it away from the tensioner. The
tensioner should engage, not allowing rope to pass through the tensioner. (see fig. 3-A).
3. Ensure that all four of the #7401 O-rings are placed on the horizontal lifeline. Using a #8447
carabiner, fasten the swivel end of the horizontal lifeline to the eye on one of your 7432 Dual-
Truss Roof Anchors. Attach your second #8447 carabiner to the ring on the tensioner, and
fasten the tensioner end of your horizontal lifeline to the eye on the 7432 Dual-Truss Roof
Anchor at the opposite end of the ridgeline. The excess rope should be hanging down from the
tensioner.
4. Pull the initial slack in the horizontal lifeline through the tensioner by hand and check to ensure
the rope is seated in the groove on the outer edge of the drum. If the rope is trapped between
the cam and the side of the drum, release the cam by hand and pull on the rope until it slips
back into the center of the drum. It is not necessary for the rope to be taught once the hand
adjustment has been made.
5. Using an adjustable wrench, rotate the drum shaft on the backplate in a counter-clockwise
direction. Do not try to reverse the rotation as the cam will lock up and resist any rotation in this
direction. The line requires approximately 450 lbs. of pre-tension to function properly. Full pre-
tension is achieved when the drum begins to slip around the rope.
6. To take the system down, first loosen the large nut on the faceplate (but do not remove). This
will ease the pressure on the cam. If it is still under tension, use a small pry-bar to loosen the
red cam lever beneath the drum. This will allow the rope to be pulled back through the
tensioner, at which point the lifeline may be detached from the anchorages. Be sure to check
the rope segment that had been engaged in the tensioner, and inspect for damage and wear.
