service. When in doubt, seek the advice of a competent person or your supervisor. Do not attempt to
repair or modify the system in any way. If the system is in need of service, repair or replacement, contact
your distributor or FallTech for return instructions. All service and repairs must be performed by
FallTech.
Section 3 – Installation and Use
The installation of the system is quick and simple. Be sure to read and follow each of the steps below.
Also, be sure to read and understand the clearfall requirements at the end of this section. Clearfall is the
distance required to ensure that a worker does not strike the next lower level in the event of a fall. The
clearfall distance includes allowances for the height of an average worker, the actual freefall distance,
deceleration distance, the dynamic sag of the horizontal lifeline and the addition of a small safety factor.
Failure to properly plan for clearfall may result in serious injury or death.
3.1 – Installation: Standard Application
1. Your Checkline Temporary HLL Kit was shipped completely assembled and ready for use. The
rope was properly threaded through the tensioner at the factory. Check the tensioner for proper
function, ensuring that the drum rotates and that the cam lever engages the rope. To check for
proper engagement, attach a #8447 carabiner to the tensioner ring. Holding the carabiner in
one hand, grab the swivel end of the rope in the other and pull it away from the tensioner. The
tensioner should engage, not allowing rope to pass through the tensioner. (see fig. 3-A).
2. In the event that the rope has to be removed from the tensioner, it can be easily replaced.
-
Loosen, but do not attempt to remove, the large nut on the faceplate. (see fig. 3-B)
-
Lift the faceplate off of the bushings, and rotate the faceplate 90 degrees. (see fig. 3-B)
-
Locate the top of the tensioner. The top is the side where the drum is completely exposed. The
bottom is the side where the locking cam lever extends beneath the bottom of the drum, in the center
of the tensioner.
-
Locate the four tensioner bushings. The #1 bushing is at the top of the tensioner, adjacent to the top
of the drum. The #2 and #3 bushings straddle the centerline of the tensioner, to the left side of the
drum. The #4 bushing is on the bottom of the tensioner, beneath the drum and to the left of the
locking cam lever. (see fig. 3-B)
