6 Electrical Connection
Requirements:
☐ Measurement ranges for voltage measurement: ±1 V or ±10 V (configurable via the user interface)
☐ Configurable measurement ranges for current measurement: ±20 mA or 4 mA to 20 mA
Cable requirements:
☐ Conductor cross-section: at least 2 x 2 x 0.5 mm²
☐ Maximum cable length: 30 m
☐ The cable must be shielded.
☐ Cables to be laid outdoors must be weatherproof or routed in a weatherproof cable channel.
Procedure:
1. Insert the cable (see Section 9.1 "Inserting the Cables", page 47).
2. Strip the cable.
3. For each analog input, fit the cable shield onto the shielding clamp. The two shielding clamps are to be found
below the connecting terminal plate X701.
4. Strip 15 mm to 18 mm of the insulation from the cable's insulated conductors. When doing so, ensure that no
pieces of cable fall into the enclosure.
5. Connect the insulated conductors to the terminals X701:1 to X701:6 in accordance with the customer-specific
system circuitry. If the conductors are stranded wires, additionally pretension the springs of the spring-cage
terminals using a screwdriver (see Section 9.2 "Connecting the Stranded Wire to the Spring-Cage Terminal",
page 48).
6. Ensure that the insulated conductors are firmly in place.
7. If the voltage or current input 1 is wired, remove the jumper from the terminals X701:1 and X701:2 and attach it
to the terminals X701:2 and X701:3.
8. If the voltage or current input 2 is wired, remove the jumper from the terminals X701:4 and X701:5 and attach it
to the terminals X701:5 and X701:6.

Setup of the current and voltage measurement
The current and voltage measuring of the SMA Fuel Save Controller is designed for four-conductor utility grids with
three line conductors and one neutral conductor as well as for three-conductor utility grids with three line conductors. If
another grid type is used, the connection of the current transformers must be coordinated with SMA Solar Technology
AG.
