5 Operation of the reverse osmosis

5.1

Switching on the BWT bestaqua 14ROC Coffee

H
DANGER!
NEVER put the device into operation if the housing cover has been removed.
f
The RO device must be connected to hoses and the electrical plug socket.

Insert the plug (230 V/50 Hz).

Open the valve for the feed water supply.

The BWT bestaqua 14ROC Coffee is switched on with the device switch on the back of the

device. Operation (POWER ON) of the BWT bestaqua 14ROC Coffee is shown by a green LED.

5.2 Setting the water quality on the blending valve

The filter heads for adjusting the blend are located under the top front cover plate. The quanti-
ty of bypass water can be adjusted on the integrated RO filter head (Fig. 3, Number 12). The by-
pass/blend is adjusted by turning the cap. Press button "a" and turn the cap right or left until
the desired blend quantity is reached. The bypass setting of the RO filter head can be set contin-
uously, regardless of the locking positions 0,1,2,3 displayed.
The target conductance should be measured in free run-off or during the coffee machine flush-
ing process. The conductance in the run-off serves as the basis for adjusting the bypass of the
bestaqua 14 Premium. The guideline conductance for the run-off water is 150 µS/cm to 180 µS/
cm. The actual outlet conductance is shown in the app. The conductance should be checked af-
ter a few hours of operation and re-adjusted as necessary. In general, the conductance should be
checked at regular intervals.
5.3

Hygiene concept and pauses in operation

In order to ensure the maximum life span of the membrane, there are two hygiene concepts:
Stop delay: After each production, the pump continues to run for around 10 s in order to flush

the membrane with tap water. This ensures that the conductance on the concentrate side of
the membrane is reduced to the initial conductance again. Stagnation peaks are thus avoid-
ed and calcification of the membrane prevented. The quantity of waste water generated here
is approx. 330 ml.
Interval flushing: Where the device is not operated for a longer period (e.g. at night), the

membrane is automatically flushed every three hours. To do this, the magnetic inlet valve
opens for around 30 s and the membrane is flushed at line pressure. Depending on the line
pressure, the quantity of waste water created is between 300 and 700 ml.
If the system is out of operation and disconnected from the power for a longer period (e.g. dur-
ing a holiday), 10-minute device flushing is necessary. It must be guaranteed that the flushing wa-
ter can flow off via the consumer if necessary. The flushing water should be discarded.
NOTE!
Please also follow the operating instructions of the external pre-filter used.

5.4 Disassembly/assembly of a new filter cartridge

Switch off the BWT bestaqua 14ROC Coffee (On/Off switch on back of device). Ensure that the

status LED is no longer lit.
Take the new filter cartridge out of the packaging and remove the hygiene cap.

Before installing a filter cartridge, write the date of installation and the date of replacement

(no more than 12 months later) on its product label.
Tip the coffeebox backwards slightly to gain better access to the filter cartridge to be re-

placed.
Turn the old filter cartridge clockwise to remove it from the filter head.

Turn the new filter cartridge anticlockwise to insert it into the filter head.

Switch the device on again and check the system for leaks.

If the BWT bestaqua 14 Premium filter cartridge has been replaced, reset the downstream fil-

ter meter in the app (see Chapter 5.5.4).
