VOLUME (Lite-Com radio volume)
The Lite-Com radio's reception volume can be controlled by pressing MODE (•) twice. There
are five volume levels that can be adjusted with the UP (+) or DOWN (–) level selectors.
Adjustments are confirmed by a voice message and displayed on the LCD. The Lite-Com
radio can also be switched off completely by adjusting the volume to the lowest setting with
the DOWN (–) button and holding it in for two seconds. A tone indicates that the Lite-Com
radio is switched off and the display will show - - (Fig. B:10).
WARNING! Radio communication can then no longer be detected. It can be reactivated by
pressing UP (+). Automatic return to the SURROUND setting is indicated by a tone.
CHANNEL
To set the channel for transmitting and receiving press MODE (•) three times. A voice mes-
sage confirms the setting. Then select the desired channel using the UP (+) or DOWN (–)
level selectors. Adjustments are confirmed by a voice message and displayed on the LCD.
Automatic return to the SURROUND setting is indicated by a tone.
VOX (Voice controlled transmission)
The Lite-Com radio also offers the option of voice controlled transmission. To set the sensitivity
for voice control, press MODE (•) four times. A voice message confirms the setting. Select the
desired sensitivity with the UP (+) level selector when there is loud noise or with the DOWN (–)
level selector in quiet surroundings. Start with a low setting and gradually increase it if noise
causes the Lite-Com radio to transmit. Adjustments are confirmed by a voice message and
displayed on the LCD. At the lowest setting, voice control is switched off and transmission
can only be done using PTT. To reactivate voice control, press UP (+). Automatic return to
the SURROUND setting is indicated by a tone. VOX can also be switched off completely by
selecting the lowest setting with the DOWN (–) button and holding it in for two seconds. A tone
indicates that VOX is switched off. To reactivate VOX, press UP (+).
The VOX function can quickly be switched off by double pressing the PTT button. A double tone
confirms that the VOX function is switched off. Re-pressing the PTT button twice reactivates
the previous VOX setting and a long tone confirms that it is switched on.
SQUELCH (Hiss reduction)
A hiss reduction function eliminates hiss in the Lite-Com radio's receiver when no one is
transmitting. It is adjustable, which may be necessary in various areas of disturbance. To set
the sensitivity for hiss reduction press MODE (•) five times. A voice message confirms the
setting. There are five levels of hiss reduction that can be adjusted using the UP (+) or DOWN
(–) level selectors. Adjustments are confirmed by a voice message and displayed on the LCD.
A normal setting is 1 or 2, however, a setting of 3 to 5 may be necessary when there is strong
interference or if a shorter range is desired. At the lowest setting, hiss reduction is switched
off, which may be necessary when receiving very weak signals. SQUELCH is switched off
completely by selecting the lowest setting using the DOWN (–) level selector and holding it in
for two seconds. To reactivate SQUELCH, press UP(+). Automatic return to the SURROUND
setting is indicated by a tone.
Functions available only on the Lite-Com III PMR 446 MHz (MT53H7*4400)
SUB-CHANNEL (Tone selective transmission and reception)
Tone selective transmission and reception means that certain low frequency tones (sub-
tones) must be transmitted along with speech in order for a radio receiver to reproduce the
transmission. This makes it possible for several users to communicate individually using the
same channel.
Use the UP (+) and DOWN (–) buttons to set the SUB CHANNEL. Adjustments are confirmed
by a voice message and displayed on the LCD. There are "sub-channels", numbered from
1 to 38, and a 0 setting where no "sub-tone" is required to communicate on the selected
channel. When tone selective transmission and reception (SUB) is activated, an "s" is always
displayed in front of the channel number. Automatic return to the SURROUND setting is
indicated by a tone.
POWER (Output)
The radio has two power settings: LO = 25 mW and HI = 150 mW. The desired power can
be set by pressing MODE (•) seven times. The setting is confirmed by a voice message and
is shown on the display screen. The desired selection is made with the UP (+) or DOWN (–)
level selectors. Adjustments are confirmed by a voice message and displayed on the LCD.
Automatic return to the SURROUND setting is indicated by a tone.
Please Note!
Battery life/user time depends on the batteries as well as how the Lite-Com III is used. For
example, with an alkaline battery that has at least 2000 mAh of power, the user time (10 %
transmission, 10 % reception, 80% standby) on a low power setting is about 25 hours. On
high power, the user time under the same conditions is reduced by about 20 %.
SET (Quick Choice)
The Lite-Com III can be programmed for simple repeat settings of channels for various
situations. The four quick choice positions can be selected by pressing SET 1 to 4 times. The
quick choice is confirmed by a voice message and displayed on the LCD. A tone indicates that
no quick choice position has been selected. After selecting a quick choice position, channels
and other functions can be stored by pressing SET until a tone confirms the stored setting
and the channel number disappears and is then redisplayed on the LCD.
PTT (Manual transmitting with the Lite-Com radio)
Transmit over the Lite-Com radio by pressing PTT.
PTT AUX (For externally connected equipment)
PTT AUX is for use with externally connected equipment.
Set-up (Advanced settings)
Several functions can be adjusted by pressing SET and ON/OFF (to start the unit) at the same
time until the LCD is activated. Then release ON/OFF before releasing SET. The selected chan-
nel is not displayed while in the Set-up mode. Use MODE to select the function to be adjusted.
Use the UP (+) or DOWN (–) level selectors to adjust settings. The settings are displayed on
the LCD and can be saved by pressing ON/OFF until the Lite-Com III switches off.
