3.1.4 Terminal configuration
There are many possible terminal configurations when connecting distribution panel busbars: vertical, horizontal,
flat, etc.

3.2 BASIC FUNCTION AND INTERRUPTION OPERATION
The ABW Compact prevents fire, property damage, interruption of electrical equipment on the load side,
protecting a circuit from leakage currents.
1. Closing of the Circuit
The closing of the mechanism applies the current to the load. When energized, some loads make the
starting current much higher than the rated current (In) (for example, the motor receives 7 to 8 times In for a
few seconds).
To avoid such current overloads that cause harmful phenomena for contacts (arc corrosion), the closing
operation must be immediate. If a circuit breaker conforms with all standard cases, it must be able to
withstand 15 to 20 times the rated current and immediately open due to failures occurring during the closing
operation or after closing.
2. Current Conduction
A circuit breaker must not exceed a temperature rise under normal current conduction, and the current
must be conducted safely within the specified interruption time under overcurrent. In addition, if a circuit
breaker is of the discriminated type, it must have a structure that can withstand high electrodynamics to
accept the short circuit current while a breaker downstream is operating to interrupt it.
3. Circuit Opening, Current Interruption
The current can be interrupted manually or remotely by voluntary operation of the mechanism;
A circuit breaker opens a circuit automatically under the current condition that can be of any value at this
moment by an auxiliary tripping unit (Undervoltage, Ground fault, etc.);
A circuit breaker opens a circuit automatically under current overload because it is operated by OCR
(Overcurrent Relay) even if it is in the closed position.
4. Insulation
When a circuit breaker is open, a certain level of insulation is required between the parts with and without
loading function. The insulation level is determined by the following tests.
A maximum leakage current test under rated operating voltage (Max. Ue);
An impulse voltage.
