- CRANKING POOR / LOW:
The system voltage during cranking
is under the normal limits: check the
conditions of the battery and the starter
with the procedures recommended by
the manufacturer.
- At the end of the test, do not switch off
the engine and press "Enter
with the charge test.
4.4 TEST CHARGING SYSTEM
- Press "Enter" to continue testing the
charging system or select the test from the
main menu.
- Keep all the vehicle charges off and the
engine at 2500 - 3000 RPM for 10 seconds.
- Then, switch on the headlights and the
air conditioning at the maximum with the
engine at the minimum rotations and wait
for 10 seconds.
- Lastly, switch off the headlights and air
conditioning and wait for 10 seconds.
When complete, the charge voltage will
be displayed with and without charge, the
voltage ripple and one of the following
results:
- HIGH VOLTAGE
Voltage output from the alternator is
within the normal limits for normal
operation, however there may be some
connections towards loose ground
or the voltage regulator should be
replaced. Check the manufacturer's
specifications for the correct limit, given
they vary based on the type of vehicle
and manufacturer.
- NORMAL VOLTAGE:
the system is displaying a normal
alternator voltage value. No problem
was detected in the charge system.
- LOW VOLTAGE:
the alternator is not supplying sufficient
voltage to the battery. Check the belts
to ensure the alternator is rotating with
the engine running. If the belts are
slipping or broken, replace the belts
and retest the charge system. Check
the connections from the alternator to
the battery. If the connection is slow
or seriously corroded, clean or replace
the cable and retest. If the belts and
the connections are in good condition,
replace the alternator.
ATTENTION:
If the ripple detected during the test is
high, the rectifying and levelling system
of the charge voltage is NOT working
properly.
Check the alternator is firmly assembled
