Checking and Adjusting the Measuring Tool
Sequence for Checking
Note: For proper adjustment of the measuring tool, the follow-
ing sequence must always be observed:
 Checking and Adjusting the Plate Level (see page 23)
 Checking and Adjusting the Circular Bubble Vial
(see page 23)
 Checking and Adjusting the Optical Plummet (see
page 23)
– For all checks, position the measuring tool on a level surface.
("Function setting" see page 20)
– Check all settings and correct as required.
– To be on the safe side, always check the measuring tool a
second time.
Checking and Adjusting the Plate Level
Checking:
– Position the plate vial parallel to levelling screws A and B.
(see figure J1)
– Centre the bubble of the plate vial with help of levelling
screws A and B.
– Turn the measuring tool 90° and centre the bubble of the
plate vial with levelling screw C. (see figure J2)
– Turn the measuring tool back to the starting position.
– If required, centre the bubble of the plate level again.
– Now, rotate the measuring tool by 180°.
When the adjustment is correct, the bubble must now be cen-
tred in the plate level.
Adjusting:
– Turn screw S with the provided adjustment mandrel 30 until
the bubble of the plate vial is halfway (1/2 t) between the
starting point and the centre. (see figure J3)
– Turn the measuring tool by 180° back to the starting position
and repeat the check.
Checking and Adjusting the Circular Bubble Vial
Checking:
When the adjustment is correct, the circular bubble vial must be
centred after checking and adjusting the plate vial.
Adjusting: (see figures K1 – K2)
Note: Take care not to overtighten and strip the adjustment
screws (S1-3).
– Loosen one of the adjustment screws a quarter turn with the
adjustment mandrel 30 and then tighten another adjustment
screw by a quarter turn.
– Repeat the adjustment as often as required until the bubble
of the plate vial is centred.
The example in the figure shows how the bubble vial moves
when loosening screw S2 and tightening screw S1.
Checking and Adjusting the Optical Plummet
With this adjustment, the visible line of the optical plummet is
brought into alignment with the vertical axis.

Checking:
– Aim at a measuring point on the ground with the optical
plummet 9.
For this, either adjust the levelling screws 1 or loosen fasten-
ing screw X of the tripod and move the measuring tool until
the optical plummet is positioned above the measuring
point.
– Now, rotate the measuring tool by 180°.
When the adjustment is correct, the optical plummet must be
positioned above the measuring point.
Adjusting:
With this adjustment, the visible line of the optical plummet is
brought into alignment with the vertical axis of the measuring
tool.
– Turn cover 29 in anticlockwise direction and remove it.
(see figure L1)
– Loosen one of the 4 adjustment screws (O 1-4) a quarter
turn with the adjustment mandrel 30 and then tighten anoth-
er adjustment screw by a quarter turn.
– Repeat the adjustment until the measuring point is located
halfway (1/2 t) between the starting point and the crosshair.
The example in the figure shows how the adjustment chang-
es when loosening screw O3 and tightening screw O4.
(see figure L2)
– Repeat the check and the adjustment until there is no devia-
tion between the measuring point and the crosshair, also
when tilting the measuring tool when in its vertical axis.
Setting the Vertical Zero Position
With this option, the angles can be viewed in both positions. It
enables you to measure and set the zero position error of the
slope compensator. You can also measure the collimation error
of your instrument so that the instrument can correct subse-
quent observations of a position. The zero index of the vertical
circle on your instrument can also be reset, and the index error
affecting the measuring accuracy of the vertical angle can be
corrected.
Worksteps
– Switch on, press the R/L button,
and the "SET F1" input prompt will
be shown. Then "SET F1" will ap-
pear in the first line and flash.
– Level the instrument horizontally
and collimate the reference target
in the normal telescope setting
(first position), press the OSET
button, and the first line will flash
and indicate "SET F2".
– Turn the telescope to the reverse
position (second position), colli-
mate the same target, and press
the OSET button. The first line will
flash and indicate "SET".
– Press the OSET button to complete
and return to the angle mode.
