9.2. AMBIENT (ENVIRONMENTAL)
LISTENING MODE
ENVIRONMENTAL LISTENING OVERVIEW
This headset is intended to help protect the user's hearing
in noise, which results in the dampening of sounds. To help
maintain auditory awareness, the headset can or may amplify
the environmental sounds based on settings.
To assist the user in a variety of acoustical environments, two
listening modes, each containing five volume settings are
offered. The user should adjust the volume setting to optimize
their hearing needs in a particular environment.
6
When operating in low noise environments such as a
concealed observation position, maximum volume may be
most beneficial. When operating in very high levels of noise
and monitoring radio communications, the ambient listening
off (mute) setting is recommended.
Using the headset on the highest volume setting for all
acoustical environments can lead to auditory fatigue and may
reduce the benefit of the headset.
LISTENING MODES
The ambient/environmental listening function is available in
two modes: Classic and Advanced.
Classic mode allows you to adjust the volume in five steps
by increasing or decreasing the sound level of the ambient/
environmental listening.
Advanced mode incorporates Mission Audio Profiles
(MAP) which offer a combination of volume and frequency
changes in 5 steps to optimize listening in different acoustical
environments. The 5 MAP profiles are shown in the table
below:
MAP Setting
Advanced mode 1
For maximum sound reduction
(Ambient listening
when in high noise and monitoring
Off)
a radio or NIB.
Advanced mode 2
For comfort in a very noisy
(Comfort)
environment.
Advanced mode 3
Intended to closely approximate
(Conversation)
open ear listening and sound
localization. Ideal setting for
extended use when other modes
are not needed.
Advanced mode 4
For high situational awareness
(Patrolling)
when walking in a low noise
environment.
Advanced mode 5
For maximum auditory awareness
(Observation)
and sound detection in a quiet
environment.
9.3. RADIO VOLUME
The radio volume setting adjusts the headset volume level of
communications from connected external devices.
• 1 (Low)
• 2 (High)
• Auto (Soundscape enabled)
The Auto setting automatically adjust itself between high and
low depending on the ambient noise.
9.4. ADVANCED SETTINGS
• On
• Off
The advance settings menu includes the additional settings
described in 9:5–9:13. The advance settings menu steps are
added to the normal menu steps when activated. It is
automatically de-activated when returning from the menu.
