CAUTION!
In order to use the PT40 device, it is ESSENTIAL that
the tyre changer is correctly fixed to the ground.
After breaking the tyre completely, following the directions and warnings
contained in Chapter 11.1, proceed to lock the turntable, proceeding as
follows:
N.B.: The working procedure is the same for both steel and alloy rims.
1- Make sure that the arm of the PT40 and the tyre changer arms are in the
out-of-use position.
2- Preset the chuck aperture so that when the tyre is placed on it, the
clamps are touching the tyre as close as possible to the edge of the rim.
3. Insert bayonet-like mounting the rim pressing tool cone on the bead
depressor pad (see Fig. M4).
4- Adjust the height of the bead presser to suit the dimensions of the wheel.
N.B.: The bead presser height must be adjusted with the arm of the PT40
in its highest position.
5- Use the control lever to lower the bead presser so that when pressure is
applied to the cone (see Fig. M5) the rim descends below the level of the
chuck clamps (see Fig. M5) for easier clamping.
WARNING.
Lowering the articulated arm creates a point with a
potential hand crushing hazard: always proceed with
the greatest care and attention.
6- Close the clamps by pressing on the pedal provided, then raise the arm
of the PT40 by moving the lever up. Now remove the bead pressing cone
and return the arm of the PT40 to the retracted position.
NOTE: To allow the tyre to be demounted or mounted, the well of the rim
(i.e. its deepest part) must be facing upwards. Reverse rim wheels therefore
have to be clamped from the opposite side.
RIM CLAMPED FROM THE INSIDE (wheels from 12-23")
Press the pedal (5, Fig. H) all the way down to close the 4 sliding clamps
completely.
Put the wheel on the table top and depress pedal (5, Fig. H) all the way
down. The 4 sliding clamps will open and clamp the wheel.
ATTENTION: In order to avoid marking the rim, alloy rims should be
locked exclusively from the outside after having mounted the specially-
provided protection on the clamps.
