E.g. a marking 7.5Jx16H2
7.5 Indicates the nominal width of the rim
J
is the size of the flange
16 is the nominal diameter of the rim
H2 indicates a double hump
Tyres are marked with a large amount of information, including dimensions, type, year
of construction, etc.
E.g. in a tyre marked 205/45 R 16 91V
205 Indicates the width of the tyre, i.e. the distance between the sidewalls in millimetres.
45 States the ratio (as a percentage) between the height and width of the cross-section.
R
stands for radial.
16 states the keying diameter (rim diameter) in inches. 91 indicates the maximum load
per wheel;
V is the maximum speed code (T: 190 km/h H: 210 km/h, etc.).
WARNING: Mounting tyres on rims which have a different keying value is absolutely forbidden, as is mounting tyres with dimensions different
from those stated by the vehicle's manufacturer in the registration papers.
Mounting tyres the TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) of which indicates that the tread is excessively worn is forbidden.
With regard to the width, refer to the specific tables.
Check that:
- there are no signs of damage on the tyre or rim (cuts, dents, tears, etc.). In the event of damage, replace the part.
- The tyre temperature must never be less than 15°C: a lower temperature might lead to damage during mounting or demounting operations.
This manual comes complete with a leaflet describing the procedures for heating tyres, and the times required.
- The chuck must be clean and undamaged.
- The chuck clamps must be fitted with plastic guards when clamping alloy rims.
WARNING:
Before proceeding with any operation on the wheel, make sure that all points of contact between the tyre changer and
the rim i.e. head, bead breaking shoe and locking clamps are equipped with the appropriate plastic protectors.
WARNING
On UHP or RUN-FLAT tyres, the working capacity is limited to a max diameter of 19" and Max length of 8.5".
After breaking and locking the wheel on the turntable as described in sections 11.1 and 11.2 of this manual, proceed to the
demounting of the tyre, proceeding as follows:
