3.8 Blocking switch (Master)

Fit a blocking switch in the vicinity of handle 1, the handle which
is connected to connection J6 on the control unit.
Connect this switch as shown in wiring diagram 7.5.

3.9 Extra buzzer

If required an extra buzzer can be fitted near the steering posi-
tion. See wiring diagram 7.6.
Fitting an extra buzzer allows any alarms to be audible at the
steering position. The buzzer output is suitable for 50 mA only.
If a buzzer taking more current than this is used a relay must
be fitted.

3.10 Non-Follow-Up switch (Joystick)

Fit a non-Follow-Up switch (Joystick) at a spot where the user
can easily operate the handle to steer the ship.
Fit an on/off switch in the vicinity of the non-Follow-Up control
and connect this switch as shown in wiring diagram 7.7.

3.11 Autopilot

An autopilot must be connected as shown in wiring diagrams
7.9.
The connections are suitable for the outputs from all common
autopilots, namely:
- Autopilots with output suitable for reversible motors, such as
the Vetus Autopilot; see diagram 7.9 A.
- Autopilots with outputs suitable for magnet valves or a relay
in which the PLUS (+) is switched; see diagram 7.9 C.
- Autopilots with outputs suitable for magnet valves or a relay
in which the MINUS (-) is switched; see diagram 7.9 D.
In all cases the input 'CLUTCH' on the control unit must
be connected to an output from the autopilot which will
be plus (+ 12 Volt or + 24 Volt) when the autopilot is in
AUTO mode!
When a Vetus Autopilot is used the signal for the rudder posi-
tion is also connected via the control unit to the autopilot; see
diagram 7.9 B.

Taking into service
(Checking and setting)
The following settings must now be made.
With the ship moored:
- Mechanical setting of the rudder feedback unit axle so that
this corresponds with the neutral position of the rudder, and
saving the maximum port and starboard rudder deflection in
the memory of the Follow-Up steering system.
- Checking rotation direction of the steering drive unit.
- Setting compensation for the steering drive unit used.
4.1 Setting neutral position of rudder feed-
back unit
Switch on the power. The Follow-Up system must be on 'Stand-
by'!
Therefore do not activate any handles or switch on autopilot
in auto mode.
Make sure that the rudder is
in the central position!
Loosen the set screw on the
rudder feedback unit.
(Hexagonal socket 2 mm).
The green and red LEDs on
the control unit show the posi-
tion of the rudder feedback
unit. Put a screwdriver in the
saw cut in the axle and adjust
until both LEDs are on.
Tighten up the set screw.
Turn the rudder and check
whether plug (XI) has been fitted properly; rudder to port – red
LED on, rudder to starboard – green LED on. If this is not the
case refit plug (XI), see 3.7 (Positioning) and carry out the
adjusting procedure again.
It is possible to make fine adjustments for the Follow-Up steer-
ing system, an autopilot and rudder position indicators sepa-
rately while sailing.
See 4.5 for the Follow-Up steering system.
Consult the appropriate manuals for how to make fine adjust-
ments to an autopilot and rudder position indicators.
