Installation of Jøtul F 220
Check the stove before commencing with the installation
to ensure that it is free of any damage. Always check your
local codes in ensuring that your installation is safe and
legal.

Foundations

If Jøtul F 220 is to be installed on a wooden floor, ensure
that the floor under the stove has the dimensions to
carry it.

Chimney

the stove can be connected to a brick, pre-fabricated
element or a steel chimney. See separate section.
Minimum chimney cross section must be 177 cm
(Corresponding to 150 mm dia.). Connection to chimney
must be done in accordance with the installation
instructions from the supplier of the chimney.

Air circulation

It is important to ensure that the chimney or flue system
to which the stove is to be connected is working properly.
Combustion by-products which pervade enclosed
spaces such as a room represent a serious health risk.
the chimney and/or flue system must therefore be
inspected and approved by a qualified professional prior
to installation.

Assembly prior to installation

• the product is delivered in one package. Included are
a heat shield and a plastic bag containing screws, a
glove to operate the door and ash pan and also a flue
cover.
• After unpacking the product, remove the heat shield
and carefully lift up the stove.
• Open the door and remove all loose items.
• If the non-combustible wall behind the stove does
not have sufficient ventilation to woodwork, the
heat shield must be fitted to the stove. If the non-
combustible wall does have ventilation, the heat shield
does not need to be used.
Assembly:
• Unscrew and remove the 4 screws on the rear section
of the stove and fasten the heat shield to the rear of
the product using the outer housing and the screws
provided in the bag (fig. 3).
• Check the product visually for damage, and check that
all handles function.

Connection to the chimney

Selection of flue
• Before making a hole in the chimney, the stove should
be tested to ensure that it is correctly positioned against
the non-combustible wall in relation to the pipe (see
fig. 1 for the dimensions of the non-combustible wall).
Mark out a hole for the flue pipe (note the gradient
against the pipe).
• Jøtul F 220 is equipped with an accompanying rear heat
shield and removeable smoke outlets.
• Select smoke outlet; to the rear or the side. Use a ball
hammer or a similar tool to hit the required knockout
plate for the flue outlet hard in the centre (fig. 2).
• When assembling through the rear: If the stove is to be
assembled to the rear, cut or saw out the cover plate in
the heat shield (fig. 3).
• If side vented; the knockout can be removed from the inside.

.
• If top vented; just remove the flue cover.
Mounting the flue pipe:
• It is recommended that burn plates and baffle plate
are removed initially, in order to obtain a fully sealed
connection between the flue pipe and the internal
smoke outlet. See section: Service.
• Insert the narrow end of the flue pipe into the smoke
outlet of the fireplace. Situate the fireplace with proper
distance to the non-combustible wall and in such a
manner that the flue pipe is inserted at least 40 mm
into the chimney outlet. Put the gasket around the
flue pipe from inside the fireplace and push it out
towards the outside wall with a screwdriver or similar.
Add a thick layer of cement to obtain a fully sealed
connection.
• Seal the opening between flue pipe and chimney outlet
with a gasket.
• Reinstall the burn plates and baffle plate.
Connection to the chimney
Drill a hole for the flue pipe. the distance from the stove to
the non-combustible wall/chimney must be a minimum
of 100 mm. Always use chimney collar when connecting
pipe to the chimney. When connecting to a prefabricated
chimney always use the chimney adapter provided by the
chimney manufacturer. Always follow the manufacturer's
operating and installation instructions closely before
commissioning the stove.
Ensure that the flue pipe is horizontal, or that it has a slight
gradient to the pipe. A steel pipe can be assembled on the
top (see steel pipe brochure).
Attention! A correct and tight connection is very important
to the function of the product.
Please note that it is particularly important for connections
to have a certain amount of flexibility.
If the product is to be reassembled later with another
smoke outlet, covering plates must be purchased.
