Warnings
– Protect the measuring device from heavy shock or falling down.
– Cleaning agents and other liquids must not enter the apparatus,
since they may damage it.
– Do not expose the radiometer to sunlight.
– Both the storage and use of other electronic devices in the imme-
diate vicinity of the apparatus may impair proper operation.
–
Portable and mobile high-frequency communication
devices may affect medical apparatus. The use of mobile
phones during operation is not allowed.
– Repair work may only be carried out by a certified Ivoclar
Vivadent Service Center.
– Use only original spare parts.
– For dental use only! Suitable for measuring energy-rich blue light
in the wavelength range of 380-515 nm and not for white light.
Operation
1) Place the light probe directly to the
centering gauge and flush on the sensor.
2) Switch on the polymerization light.
Note: In order to achieve accurate
measuring results, only light probes with a
circular emission window must be used.
3) The bluephase meter automatically
switches on at a light intensity of at least
300 mW/cm
2
. A lower light intensity is
indicated with "----" on the display.
4) Hold the polymerization light above the
sensor for about 5 seconds.
5) The measuring result shows the power density in milliwatt per
square centimeter.
6) Switch off the polymerization light.
7) The bluephase meter automatically switches off after 20 seconds
of light exposure or 3 seconds after removing the light source.
What if...?
– ... the bluephase meter shows a value below 400 mW/cm
400 mW/cm
2
is the absolute minimum of light intensity for poly-
merization lights. If the light intensity is lower, composites can no
longer be completely polymerized. Therefore, it is recommended
to replace a curing light with a light intensity of less than
400 mW/cm
2
.
– ... the measuring results correspond with the data
provided by the manufacturer?
The polymerization light achieves the stipulated light intensity
and can therefore be used according to the curing recommenda-
tions of the respective manufacturer or stipulations of the
corresponding composite manufacturer.
– ... the measuring results deviate strongly?
If the measuring results strongly differ from the manufacturer's
data, the following procedure is recommended:
– Check the selected curing program.
– Clean the sensor of the bluephase meter (see Maintenance
and Cleaning).
– Clean the light probe with a disinfectant and a soft cloth.
Carefully remove any possible material residue, such as
composite material, from the light probe with e.g. fingernail
or a plastic spatula. Do not use sharp or pointed instruments,
since they may scratch the surface of the light probe and thus
reduce light transmission.
– Check light probe for damage. If the light probe is held
against a light source and certain segments appear black,
then the glass fibres are broken. In this case, the light probe
has to be replaced with a new one.
If these measures do not improve the results, the curing times
have to be prolonged respectively in order to achieve sufficient
polymerization. The following standard applies: With half the light
intensity, the curing time has to be doubled (e.g. the measured
light intensity is 500 mW/cm
manufacturer is 1000 mW/cm
this case, the curing time has to be doubled to 40 seconds).
– ..."LO" is shown on the display?
A low residual capacity is repeatedly shown by "LO" on the
display. The batteries have to be replaced as soon as possible.
– ...the display does not show anything?
– After 20 seconds of exposure to light (e.g. also sunlight), the
bluephase meter automatically changes into the stand-by
mode. Remove the light source before you conduct a new
measuring. If still no measuring is possible, cover the sensor
with the hand for a short time.
– If these measures do not improve the results, check the

batteries and replace them, if required.
– If there is still no display upon exposure to the light of a
curing light despite these measures, send the bluephase meter
to a certified Ivoclar Vivadent Service Center for repair.
