Multi-Drive Feature (Mobile App Only)

The SubDrive Connect Plus has MultiDrive functionality via the
mobile app. A multiple drive/pump configuration is ideal for a
system that needs constant pressure with a wide range of
flow, such as an apartment building or a manufacturing fa-
cility. The use of multiple pumps and drives has the advantage
of increased efficiency at both very low and very high flow
rates, as compared to a single pump sized to accommodate
typical usage. A single pump may not be able to supply the
complete flow range and is likely to be inefficient at the ends
of the range.
In contrast, a series of pumps/drives that operate at a high ef-
ficiency at low flow rates can maximize effectiveness across
the full spectrum of demand. The Lead drive will turn on pump
1 first to supply minimal usage. Then, as additional flow is
needed, Lag pumps will activate in their designated order.
The SubDrive Connect Plus system can support up to eight pumps and drives.
IMPORTANT: All motors must be the same type.

Methods of Operation

The SubDrive Connect Plus multi-pump system is designed to operate as a constant pressure system us-
ing PID feedback control. It can also be used as a pressure boosting system with dual PID control. It is
possible to use a pressure setpoint potentiometer, but it must be wired to all drives.
NOTE: This system is NOT suitable for use with a tank application, water level control, constant flow sys-
tems (irrigation), fixed frequency applications, or with a speed potentiometer.
VFD Roles for MultiDrive Operation
CAUTION
Risk of bodily injury or property damage. A pressurized system can cause a
pump to deadhead.
To prevent this, size the pump to be able to withstand additional head equivalent to the
regulating pressure of the system.
M M a a s s t t e e r r : : The VFD that controls starting of the overall system and activating each pump.
The Master is always the VFD with the lowest ID number.
If the Master loses communication to the system, the remaining VFD with the lowest ID takes over
as Master. For this reason, the best practice is to program all drives with the same parameters.
The overall system becomes active when the Master is in Auto.
The Master monitors its own PID sensor, along with the Lead drive frequency to determine when to
start or stop remaining drives.
The Master can also function in any of the other roles.
L L e e a a d d : : The Lead VFD regulates the overall pressure of the system using its own PID to control speed.
The Lead drive operates in PID mode with its own PID settings to control the speed. If the drive is
set to operate at a fixed frequency, or to use a speed control potentiometer, it can-not function as a
Lead.
