5.3 Installation of motor
- Separate the two coupling guards (7450) using a screwdriver.
- Partially unscrew the screws (9910) of the coupling (7114).
- Place the motor on the lantern (3132), taking care to align the
motor shaft key slot with the screw (9910) of the coupling (7114).
- Attach the motor to the lantern using the bolts and nuts provided in
the pouch.
- Tighten the screws (9910) of the coupling in the motor shaft key slot
to a torque in excess of 20 N.m.
- Remove the adjustment shim C (see Fig. 2) from between the
coupling and the lantern. Keep it nearby.
- Put the two coupling guards back in place.
- Connect the pump to the suction and discharge pipes, which may
be fitted with optional PN 10 counter-flanges with gasket faces.
On either side of the ports, provide isolating valves to facilita-
te the removal of the pump and anti-vibration sleeves to
reduce stresses and block the transmission of flow noise.
JRLA pumps
Fit a divergent pipe or sleeve between the discharge flange and the
isolating valve to make it possible to work on the check valve without
removing the pump.
• Avoid letting the pump support the weight of the pipes; use
supports or collars.
• Make sure that the pipes are tight.
Pressure measurements
Two 1/8"-dia. ports are provided for the connection of pressure
gauges, on the suction and discharge flanges (9621A).

5.4 Electrical connections

The electrical connections and checks should be made by a
qualified electrician and comply with the local standards in
force.
• The motors used should have standard flanges and shaft ends and
comply with the electrical standards in force at the site.
• Check that the characteristics of the line power match what is
marked on the motor data plate.
- Protect the motors with circuit-breakers having thermal relays set to
the current marked on the motor data plate (or Y1200 box of JRLA
dual pumps).
- Connect the line power to the motor terminal box using a
four-conductor cable (3 phases + earth) for a three-phase supply or
a three-conductor cable (2 phases + earth) for a single-phase
supply, in accordance with the electrical standards in force at the
site.
- Connect the earth.
Electrical connection to Y1200 box (see instructions specific to the
Y1200, supplied with the box).
6. STARTING UP
6.1 Filling - degassing
Never run the pump dry, even briefly.
- Close the isolating valve and completely fill the pump and the
suction pipe.
- Open the bleed device(s) on the lantern-bearings; wait until a
stream of water flows out before closing them.
- Check that the motor turns freely, with no sticking.
- Check the direction of rotation of the motor (on the cooling fan on
the back).
• The proper direction is indicated by an arrow on the lantern.
• Close the circuit-breaker and check.
6.2 Adjustments
JRLA with Y1200 box
- Apply power to the box (indicator lit).
- Press the MANUAL OPERATION and PUMP 1 ON pushbuttons.
- Check the direction of rotation.
- Repeat these steps for pump 2.
If a pump turns the wrong way, interchange two phase wires on the
motor terminal block.
- The check of the direction of rotation should be brief, so as not to
operate the pump too long at zero flow (discharge valve closed).
Thermal relays
- Set the motor protection thermal relays according to the current
marked on the data plate.
- Make a fine adjustment.
- With the motor stopped, cut off one phase.
- Power up again and check that the relay trips out instantaneously.
- Check that the current draw is less than or equal to the value
marked on the motor data plate.
Check of coupling adjustment
- Push back one of the coupling guards.
- Place the adjustment shim between the coupling and the lantern.
It should touch the coupling and the lantern but not be jammed; if
this is not the case, adjust the coupling again using the screws
(9910).
- Remember to remove the shim after making the check.
- Put the coupling guard back on the lantern.
- Open the discharge valve gradually and check that the pressure is
stable.
7. SERVICING
No special servicing is needed in operation. Keep the pump per-
fectly clean.
7.1 Dismantling the pump
- Disconnect the motor(s).
- Unscrew the screws (9902) to free the lantern (3132) from the pump
casing (1111).
- Withdraw the assembly consisting of the impeller (2250), lantern,
and motor (8010) and recover the casing O-ring (4610).
- Remove the keeper ring (6545A), remove the impeller, and remove
the second keeper ring (6545B).
- Recover the thrust ring (9940) of the mechanical seal and the
rotating part (4220); take care not to damage the diaphragm on
the degassing groove.
- Remove the coupling guards (7450) and unscrew the screws (9910)
on the coupling (7114).
- Unscrew the screws (9906) and withdraw the motor.
- Withdraw the coupling (7114) and remove the fixed part of the
mechanical seal (4240).
JRLA pumps
Proceed in the same way to remove the other pump.
7.2 Refitting the pump
- Fit the coupling on the motor shaft without fully tightening the
screws (9910).
- Attach the lantern to the motor.
- Place the adjustment shim (4 mm thick, supplied) between the
coupling and the lantern (see Fig. 2), tighten the screws (9910) to
the minimum torque required, remove the shim, and refit the
coupling guards.
- Refit the mechanical seal.
The mechanical seal and fitting accessories are supplied in a pouch.
