INSTALLING THE BATTERY

Carefully read p. 66 (BATTERY).
◆ Remove the battery/tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 25 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).
◆ Remove the tool kit compartment.
◆ Put the battery in its seat.
◆ Connect the breather pipe (only for
batteries that need maintenance).
CAUTION
Always connect the battery breather pipe,
to prevent the sulphuric acid vapours from
corroding the electric system, painted
parts, rubber elements or gaskets when
they exit the breather pipe itself.
The breather pipe must be connected in
such a way as not to be squashed, otherwise
it may cause a pressure increase inside
the battery, with the risk of damaging it.
◆ Connect, in order, the positive (red) ( + )
and negative ( – ) cable.
◆ Cover the terminals with special grease or
Vaseline.
◆ Put back the tool kit compartment.
◆ Put back the battery/tool kit compartment
cover, see p. 25 (BATTERY / TOOL KIT
COMPARTMENT).

CHECKING THE
ELECTROLYTE LEVEL
(ONLY FOR BATTERIES THAT
NEED MAINTENANCE)
NOTE
The following text is valid ONLY if
the installed battery needs maintenance.
Carefully read p. 66 (BATTERY).
◆ Remove the battery from its compartment,
see p. 67 (REMOVING THE BATTERY).
◆ Make sure that the fluid level is included
between the two "MIN" and "MAX" notches
stamped on the battery side. Otherwise:
◆ Unscrew and remove the element plugs.
CAUTION
Top up with distilled water only. Do not
exceed the "MAX" mark, since the
electrolyte level increases during the
recharge.
◆ Top up by adding distilled water.
After topping up, refit the element plugs
CAUTION
After topping up, put back the element plugs
in the correct position.
◆ Put back the element plugs.
