1. Disconnect the gauge manifold yellow line from the vacuum pump and
reconnect to the liquid port of a cylinder of the required refrigerant. Purge the
yellow line and manifold with refrigerant.
2. Add LIQUID refrigerant through the compressor discharge service port until
the required refrigerant WEIGHT has been transferred:
V-800 10: 4.55 kg/10.0 lb of R-134a
V-800 20: 4.85 kg/10.7 lb of R-134a
V-800 MAX 10/30: 4.7 kg/10.36 lb of R-404A
V-800 MAX 20/50: 5.0 kg/11.0 lb of R-404A
V-800 MAX SPECTRUM 50 (ES400+ES400): 5.2 kg/11.5 lb of R-404A
V-800 MAX SPECTRUM 50 (ES600+ES150): 5.0 kg/11.0 lb of R-404A
V-800 MAX SPECTRUM 50 (ES600+2xES150): 5.15 kg/11.35 lb of R-404A
The refrigerant charge must be made in liquid phase for R-404A.
3. Close the refrigerant cylinder and the discharge pressure-side valve of the
gauge manifold.
4. Start the vehicle engine and set it to run at approximately 1000 rpm.
5. Start the refrigeration unit and adjust the set point to 0°C.
6. Units with a single compartment: See page 57.
SPECTRUM units: See page 58.
7. Run the unit until it reaches the set temperature and, if required, cover the
condenser coil during that time to maintain a discharge pressure:
• 12.5 bar with R-134a
• 19 bar with R-404A
(Rev. 4, 01/15)
Charging the Circuit
8. Open the suction-side valve of the gauge manifold and open the refrigerant
bottle valve. Slowly add refrigerant until no bubbles can be seen through the
liquid sight glass. Do not allow the suction pressure to increase more than
1.7 bar (25 psi).
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7 at -20°C if the unit is to be used at that temperature.
10. Close the refrigerant bottle valve and the gauge manifold hand valve.
11. Run the unit for 15 minutes, checking the sight glass.
Charging the circuit for units with electrical standby
12. Turn off the unit and stop the vehicle engine.
13. Connect the unit to a suitable plug. Run the unit on electric standby
operation for 15 minutes.
14. Turn off the unit and unplug it.
15. Start the vehicle and turn on the unit and run it with the over-the-
road compressor for 15 minutes.
16. Check that there are no bubbles in the sight glass. Otherwise,
repeat steps 7 and 8 of previous operation.
17. Turn off the unit, stop the vehicle and remove the gauge manifold.
