Use
The training device does not have a seal on the lower
part of the housing. It is therefore easy to open. The
functional part is removed more easily than on the oxygen
self-rescuer.
For the oxygen self-rescuer, opening can be supported as
follows:
Use the fully opened opener to lever the lid open.
Or:
Bend the casing at the face seal. To do this, place the
device flat on the floor. Press on the edge of the upper and
lower parts of the casing.
In minus temperatures, support the opening with your feet
if necessary (analogous to the previous point).
3. Grasp the yellow loop and use it to pull the device out of
the housing.
CAUTION
Damage to the device poses a risk of injury!
If the oxygen self-rescuer is pulled out of the housing by the
mouthpiece, the hose or any other part, it could become
damaged and will be unable to supply sufficient breathing air.
► Use the yellow loop to pull out the device. Observe the
indicated direction when pulling it out.
4. Hold the device so that the breathing bag points away
from the body.
5. If necessary, remove the helmet.
6. Place the neck strap around your neck.
7. If necessary, put the helmet on.
16
Perform the next steps for donning quickly.
8. Bring the mouthpiece up to your face. In doing so, the
mouthpiece cap is removed from the mouthpiece. The
starter pin is pulled out of the device.
9. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth. Ensure that the
breathing hose does not get twisted. The rubber piece
should sit between the teeth and the lips.
10. Cover the mouthpiece tightly with your lips.
11. Pull the nose clip apart and place it over the nostrils. The
nose must be closed tightly.
With the oxygen self-rescuer, the oxygen from the
starter flows into the breathing bag within 1 to 2 minutes.
However, the breathing bag does not fill completely. If
necessary, use your hands to help unfold the breathing
bag. If the breathing bag does not fill, breathe out
powerfully two or three times to fill the breathing bag.
12. Handle the device as indicated, and pull on the end of the
neck strap to raise the device. Position the device in front
of your chest. The device must not be positioned too high,
or pull down on the mouthpiece.
13. If necessary, remove corrective glasses.
14. If necessary, release the spectacles from the device and
from the button strap and put them on.
15. Put the chest strap around your body and close it.
16. Tighten the chest strap.

Notes for the use of the oxygen self-
rescuer
– Start the escape calmly, do not rush.
– Plan your escape route; choose the shortest way to safe
ambient air!
– Behave calmly. Short, quick breaths use more oxygen!
– Always make sure that the mouthpiece is tight between
your teeth and lips and cover the mouthpiece tightly with
your lips to ensure no contaminants are inhaled from the
surroundings.
– The nose clip must close the nose tightly to ensure no
contaminants are inhaled from the surroundings.
– The air from the oxygen self-rescuer is warm and dry. This
shows that the oxygen self-rescuer is functioning correctly.
A possible strange taste is normal and harmless.
– Do not damage or compress the breathing bag, otherwise
vital oxygen is lost.
