TEST OF RESIDUAL CURRENT DEVICES
This function is used to test the correct dimensioning of the residual current devices and their correct
operation.
Two test modes are possible:
test without triggering (see §4.2.1) :
=> The instrument performs only a loop measurement (or live ground measurement if the
voltage probe is connected)
test with triggering (see § 4.2.2) :
=> In this case, the instrument performs, in order:
-
a test without triggering,
-
a non-tripping test
-
a tripping test, with measurement of the time to tripping if the "pulse" mode is selected
or measurement of the time to tripping and of the effective tripping current if the
"sweep" mode is selected.
4.2.1 Test without triggering - loop / live ground
4.2.1.1 Description of the function
Loop measurement:
The measurement of loop impedance LPE is a fast and practical way to check a ground resistance
without placing an auxiliary rod. The measurement in this case includes the ground resistance of the
power supply transformer of the installation and the resistance of the distribution cables. It therefore
overestimates the ground resistance, and errs in the direction of safety.
In TT and TN networks, this function is also used to check and dimension protection systems in place
by a fast and easy measurement of the loop impedances between L and PE, L and N, and N and PE.
This function also allows calculation of the corresponding short-circuit current (dimensioning of fuses
and circuit-breakers).
