Note
Adjust the inclination sensor at regular intervals ( → page 55). This helps ensure high measuring
accuracy .

6.4.4 Measuring vertical distances indirectly

1. Select the option 'Indirect' and 'Vertical' from the 'Functions' menu.
2. Position the tool so that the display is facing upwards or downwards. It is essential to avoid inclination
to the side.
Note
Take care to ensure that the reference position remains unchanged during the entire measuring
operation. Use of the short measuring extension is helpful.
This indirect function makes use of the angle sensor, which works only with a vertical pivot. In
other words, the display can face upwards or downwards, but should not be tilted to the left or
right. If it is tilted to the side by more than 5° then the inclination indication disappears from the
display and angle measurement is no longer possible.
3. Measure the distance to the upper end point.
4. Keeping the reference position the same, tilt the tool in the vertical plane towards the lower end point.
5. Measure the distance to the lower end point.
◁ The result is displayed.
Note
Adjust the inclination sensor at regular intervals ( → page 55). This helps ensure high measuring
accuracy .

6.4.5 Measuring horizontal distance overhead indirectly

1. Select the option 'Indirect' and 'Overhead' from the 'Functions' menu.
2. Position the tool so that the display is facing upwards or downwards. It is essential to avoid tipping the
tool to the side.
Note
Take care to ensure that the reference position remains unchanged during the entire measuring
operation. Use of the short measuring extension is helpful.

display and angle measurement is no longer possible.
3. Measure the distance to the first end point.
4. Keeping the reference position the same, tilt the tool in the vertical plane towards the second end point.
5. Measure the distance.
◁ The result is displayed.

6.4.6 'Indirect','Not reflecting'
This function measures the distance to the end point of an object that is barely reflective, such as the top of
a crane or a tree.
It is suitable for calculating a distance if a target point is not reflective.
6.4.7 Measure the height of an object when only one target point is clearly visible – indirect mea-
surement
1. Position the tool so that the display is facing upwards or downwards. It is essential to avoid tipping the
tool to the side.
