3.6 Basic principle

The tool determines the distance along a laser beam emitted by the tool to the point at which the beam
strikes a reflective surface. The red laser spot ensures that the target is clearly identifiable. The range is
dependent on ambient light levels as well as the reflectance and structure of the target surface from which
measurements are taken.
