Adjusting
the Carburetor
Models with H-, L- and LA-screw
Engine stops while idling
Set low speed screw (L) one full turn
open.
Turn the idle speed (LA) clockwise
until the chain begins to run. Then
back off the screw one quarter of a
turn.
Chain runs when engine is idling
Set low speed screw (L) one full turn
open.
Turn the idle speed (LA) counter-
clockwise until the chain stops
running. Then turn the screw
another quarter turn in the same
direction.
Erratic idling behavior, poor
acceleration even though setting of
LA screw is correct
Idle setting is too lean
Turn low speed screw (L) counter-
clockwise until the engine runs and
accelerates smoothly.
General Information
Your carburetor is preset at the factory
with the standard setting.
This setting is designed to provide an
optimum fuel-air mixture under most
operating conditions.

a risk of engine damage due to
insufficient lubrication and
overheating.
Standard
Setting
Shut off the engine.
Check the air filter and clean or
replace if necessary.
Check the spark arresting screen* in
the muffler and clean or replace if
necessary.
Turn high speed screw (H)
counterclockwise
as far as stop (no
more
than
3/4
turn)
Carefully screw the tow speed
screw (L) down onto its seat
(clockwise), then turn it back one full
turn counterclockwise.

Idle Speed
Engine stops while idling
Carry out standard setting on low
speed screw (L).
Turn the idle speed screw (LA)
clockwise until chain begins to run -
then back it off 1/4 turn.
