USE AND MAINTENANCE

5. 1
PRELIMINARY CHECKS
UPON START-UP
Before activating the wood boiler it is
necessary to follow the instructions
below:
– The system the boiler is connected to
mus t pr eferabl y have a open
expansion vessel system.
– The pipe that connects the boiler to
the expansion vessel must have a
suitable diameter in line with current
standards.
– The heating pump must always be in
operation when the boiler is on.
– The operation of the pump must
never be interrupted by an ambient
thermostat.
– If the system has a 3 or 4- way mixer
val ve, t his mus t always be open
towards the system.

WOOD

Wood is mainly formed by cellulose
and lignite. It also contains other
substances such as resin (fir - pine),
tannin (oak - chestnut) and of course a
large amount of water. Top quality
types of wood are oak, ash, beech,
maple and fr uit tr ees excep t f or
cherry; cherry and birch are fairly
good quality types of wood and the
quality of bass, poplar and willow wood

is considered suf ficient. Resinous
plants are generally mediocre fuels.
Wood is therefore an extremely varied
kind of fuel depending on the type of
wood (beech, oak, fruit trees, resinous
plants) in terms of moisture content,
shape and size.
The boiler's operation will inevitably be
inf luenced by all t hese f act or s,
especially size, moisture and also how
the wood it is loaded into the unit.
5.2. 1 Wood moisture
content
The calorific value of the different
types of wood depends on its moisture
content, as indicated in the table.
The output and operating time of the
boiler will dr op as t he mois tur e
content increases. The table reports
the power reduction factor based on
the moisture content of the wood
used. The effective output of the boiler
is calculated based on wood with a
15% mois tur e cont ent. As an
indication, the moisture content of
wood dried for two years in a covered
place is approximately 25%.
Example:
moisture content of the wood used =

TURNING ON AND ADJUSTING THE
HEATING TEMPERATURE
Power on the boiler by pressing the
main switch (pos. 8). When the green
light comes on (pos. 3), this means
that the boiler is powered on.
The system's water temperature can
be adjusted by turning the knob (pos.
5) clockwise t o incr ease it and
anticlockwise t o r educe it. The
adjus tment r ange is be tween a
minimum value of 75° C and a
maximum value of 85° C. The set
temperature value can be checked on
the thermometer (pos. 2).
