Ignition test
After a long period of storage of the APC probe, it may occur that
the first ignition of the plasma is more or less delayed. For this
reason, perform an ignition test prior to using argon plasma co-
agulation. Use a large, metallic object for this purpose. This has
to be sterile and must not have any electrically conductive con-
tact to the patient, to other persons or electronic devices.
If the plasma does not ignite, proceed as follows:
1. Check the argon flow. Is it sufficient? Gas flow rate at least
1.5 l / min.
2. Check the connection to the HF generator. Is this OK?
3. If the argon flow and the connection are OK, bring the APC
probe as close as possible to the metallic object. Activate the
unit several times, if necessary, until the plasma ignites.
Once the plasma has ignited, it normally ignites without delay for
subsequent activations.

What to do if the plasma no longer ignites
during use
1. Check the argon flow. Is it sufficient? Gas flow rate at least
1.5 l / min.
2. Check the connection to the HF generator. Is this OK?
3. Inspect the APC probe. The tip may be burned off. Take a new
APC probe in this case.
