18 Adjusting the Carburetor

► Remove the felt mat (3) and air filter (4).
► Knock out the felt mat or blow it clear – if
heavily loaded with dirt, fit a new one.
► Wash the air filter in a clean, non-flammable
solution (warm soapy water) and shake it out
thoroughly.
► Replace damaged parts of the air filter.
► Install the air filter and felt mat.
► Fit the carburetor box cover and secure it in
position.
18 Adjusting the Carburetor
The carburetor comes from the factory with a
standard setting.
This setting provides an optimum fuel-air mixture
under most operating conditions.
It ensures your machine will deliver maximum
power, be fuel efficient and operate reliably.

Standard Setting
► Stopping the engine
► Mount the cutting attachment.
► Check the air filter and clean or replace as
necessary.
► Check that the throttle cable is properly adjus‐
ted – readjust if necessary – see chapter on
"Adjusting the Throttle Cable".

► Carefully turn the high speed screw (H) and
low speed screw (L) clockwise down onto their
seats.
► Turn the high speed screw (H) one full turn
counterclockwise.
► Turn the low speed screw (L) one full turn
counterclockwise.
► Start and warm up the engine.

► Adjust idle speed with the idle speed
screw (LA) so that the cutting attachment does
not rotate.

Fine tuning (adjusting maxi‐
mum RPM)
A slight correction of the setting of the high
speed screw (H) may be necessary if engine
power is not satisfactory when operating at high
altitude, sea level or after changing the cutting
attachment.
