Who do these pointed hats belong to?
Game 1
A cooperative game that helps recognition of materials.
Players: 2 – 4 or solo
Material: To start with, 3 pixies with matching hats, more can be added later
Duration: approx. 5-15 mins.
The aim of the game is find the right hats by feeling them.
Preparation
Place the three pixies in a row in the middle of the table, with the matching hats in
front of them, so that the tactile surface is hidden on the table top. Mix up the hats.
How to play
The players take turns to feel the surfaces of the pixies. Then, they lift each hat in
turn and feel the hidden surface underneath, without turning the hats over. Players
can check with each other which pixie they think belongs with which hat. If they are
sure they have found a matching hat, they put it in front of the right pixie.
To check, turn the hats over and take a look: You can check both the material's

surface texture and the color, as each material has a different color!
If the three hats were matched correctly, the three pixies can now 'go home'.
The children are praised for helping the pixies brilliantly!
The game becomes more difficult if more than three pixies are put in front of the
players.
Version – 'One after another':
The game is the same as above: there are still three pixies in front of the children
and the hats are on the table, mixed up. However, in this version, the children match
one hat after another: If they have matched a pixie with the correct hat, it can 'go
home', i.e. it is put back in the box. It is replaced with a new pixie, who joins the two
others. The hats are mixed up again, and the game starts from the beginning. This
version requires children to be a bit more disciplined, as they have to agree which
pixie they want to match to which hat in each round.
Solo version (can be with a game organizer)
A solo player starts by placing 3, and later more, pixies in front of them. They feel
the surfaces of the pixies and then the covered surfaces beneath the pointed hats.
If they are sure they've found a hat, they put it on the matching pixie – without
looking first. When they have matched all the hats, they use the checking process
mentioned above to see whether they are right.
