Is this my hat or yours?
A hat memory game – medium version
Players: 2 – 4
Material: Board, 12 pixies, 12 hats
Duration: approx. 10-15 mins.
When the little pixies play a funny team game, naturally it's always about one thing:
making sure that everyone has their own hat at the end!
The aim of the game is to find each pixie's hat and also win as many 'extra pixies'
as possible.
Preparation
Choose your pixie teams: Each player takes it in turn to choose a pixie and puts it in
front of them, until all players have the right number of pixies in their team:
For 2 players 4 pixies per player
For 3 players 3 pixies per player
For 4 players 2 pixies per player
Once the pixie teams are complete, the remaining pixies are put at the edge of the
pitch. They are the 'extras'. Mix the hats up and place them in the middle of the
board on the marked areas.
How to play
The first player starts. They choose a hat from the middle and feel the surface,
without looking at it or showing it to the other players. They are only allowed to
compare it with the surfaces of their own pixies, not those on the other teams or
the 'extras'.
When they are sure that the hat they are feeling goes with one of their pixies,
they announce it and put the hat on it so that everyone can see.
Was the player right?
If so, they claim the hat and put it on their pixie. It's then the next player's turn.
Was the player wrong?
They put the hat back in the middle and all the players try to remember the hat's
position. It's now the next player's turn.
The game is played clockwise. Once a player has succeeded in putting a hat on all of
their pixies, they can claim pixies from the extras team. Obviously, they have to find
the right hats for them, just as they did for their team. It's therefore really useful to
remember at the beginning the positions of the extras team's hats, even if the extra
pixies only come on to play later.
At the end
The game ends when all pixies in the extras team have been handed out. Now count
up who has won the most pixies. The player with the most pixies has won, the player
with the second most pixies is second etc.
