6.1.4

Cleaning the cutting bar and lubrication holes

The lubrication system must be clean for the bar and chain to be efficient.
After disassembling the front casing (5), the chain (1) and the bar (2); remove all cutting residues (sawdust) using a
brush.
Clean the whole area of the tool that is below the
bar and specifically the oil distributor (A).
Use a brush to remove all traces of dirt on the bar:
-
Clean the groove of the bar with the dedicated
scraper.
-
Clean the lubrication holes.
6.1.5

Sharpening the chain

The chain must always be properly sharpened. If the chain is sharpened, it penetrates the wood on its own and pro-
duces large and long chips.
Sharpen the chain when one of the following situations occurs:
-
the chain does not cut without pressing the blade against the wood and produces very fine sawdust;
-
if the cut does not produce sawdust, the chain is completely blunt and pulverizes the wood while cutting;
-
the pruner "stutters" while cutting.
IMPORTANT!
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for chain (1) sharpening and maintenance.
A correct sharpening restores the connection edge of each cutter at the sharpening angles indicated by the manufac-
turer.
Contact the dealer who will recommend the correct tools to perform a correct sharpening of the chain.
CAUTION!
The chain teeth are sharp, operators may cut themselves. Put on heavy-duty work gloves.
 SHARPENING THE CUTTERS
Clean the chain and replace damaged or worn parts before sharpening.
A = Sharpening angle
B = Cutting angle
C = Depth gauge
D = Parallels
E = Right link cutter
F= Left link cutter
G = Depth limiter
Sharpen using the supplied 4 mm file suitable for the chain pitch
(1/4").
-
During sharpening, the round file must be held at a right angle with
respect to the bar.
-
always sharpen the chain outwards on the cutter, keeping the cut-
ter at a 30° angle.
-
Finish sharpening the teeth on the same side then turn the chain
and repeat the operation for the teeth on the opposite side.
-
After sharpening, all cutting teeth must be of the same length and
width.
IMPORTANT!
After filing the chain on the bar, submerge it in oil and eliminate any filing residues before use. Apply a suffi-
cient amount of oil and spin the chain slowly to remove any filing residues stuck in the groove of the bar. Filing resi-
dues in the groove cause premature damage to the chain and the guiding bar.
CAUTION!
Sharpening the teeth of the chain will reduce the difference between tooth and depth limiter.
After sharpening the chain (1) 3 or 4 times, check and file the depth limiter if necessary, using a flat file, then
round the front tip.
