Operating the Engine
Your machine may be equipped with the standard ignition
switch and hour meter, or the optional Light Sequence
Commander (LSC) automatic starting unit.
Before Operating
1. Perform pre-operation checks. See Pre-Operation
Checklist.
2. Make sure the unit is set up properly at the work site.
See Operation - Setting Up The Unit.
To start the engine with the standard ignition switch:
1. Turn the ignition switch (A, Figure 21) on the control
panel counterclockwise to PREHEAT (B, Figure 21).
Hold for approximately 20 seconds.
Note: Do not hold for longer than 20 seconds.
2. Turn the switch clockwise past RUN (C, Figure 21) to
START (D, Figure 21).
3. Once the engine starts, release the switch; it will
return to the RUN position.
Note: The electrical system is designed with a
20-second delay after the engine starts before the
lights and auxiliary AC outlets will operate.
Note: The hourmeter (E, Figure 21) indicates the total
hours of engine operation.
NOTICE
Do not operate the starter for more than 10 seconds.
Allow 30 seconds between starting attempts. Possible
starter damage could result from excessive starting
attempts.
NOTICE
Engaging the starter while the flywheel is rotating could
result in damage to the starter or flywheel ring gear.
If the engine has run out of fuel, you will need to bleed
the air from the fuel system. See 'Bleeding The Fuel
System' in the Engine Operator's Manual.
For further information on starting your engine, see the
Engine Operator's Manual.
To shut down the engine with the standard ignition
switch:
1. Turn the ignition switch counterclockwise to the OFF
position (F, Figure 21).
Note: The electrical system automatically turns off the
tower lights before the engine shuts down to protect
the capacitors.

To start the engine with LSC:
WARNING
Automatic Engine Start Hazard
Unexpected start of engine could result in death or
serious injury. Read and follow electronic controller
operator's manual before operating or servicing this
equipment.
1. Switch the LSC On / Off switch (A, Figure 22) to the
'On' position.
2. To manually start the engine *:
Press the button (B, Figure 22) below the 'Start'
indicator on the high resolution LCD panel. This
indicator will immediately change to 'Stop'.
An alarm will sound for about 5 seconds to warn
that the engine is about to start.
The glow plug indicator will be visible on the LCD
to indicate that the glow plug is on (C, Figure 22).
After the glow plug has warmed the intake, the
engine will begin to crank.
If the engine does not start, the LSC will attempt
the start the engine twice more. If the engine
does not start after three trys, a "failed start" error
code will appear (D, Figure 22).
