5 Preparation for use

5.1 Preparing for Socket Fabrication

INFORMATION
The Dynamic Vacuum System can be used with a total surface weight-
bearing socket or a specific weight-bearing socket. Observe the following
instructions:
► Maintain the residual limb length with liner unchanged while taking the
plaster cast.
► Do not shorten the plaster model during modelling.
Required materials: Piston dummy, silicone dummy, short or long valve

dummy, 99B25 nylon stockinette, 99B81=70X19X5 PVA bag, string,
633W8 wax, 636K8* Plastaband
1) Distally flatten the plaster model so that the piston dummy can be posi­
tioned in the longitudinal residual limb axis (see fig. 2). Position the pis­
ton dummy on the plaster model and loosely secure it with a plaster
screw.
2) Pull a nylon stockinette over the plaster model.
3) Tie off the nylon stockinette between the piston dummy and plaster mod­
el and trim off the excess nylon stockinette (see fig. 3).
4) Turn the plaster screw all the way in (see fig. 4).
