5.1 Preparing for Socket Fabrication

INFORMATION
The product can be used with a total surface weight-bearing socket or a
specific weight-bearing socket.
Required tools and materials:

Piston dummy, silicone dummy, 99B25 tube sock, 99B81=70X19X5 PVA
bag, string, 633W8 wax, 636K8* Plastaband
1) Position the piston dummy in the longitudinal residual limb axis on the
plaster model and loosely secure it with a plaster screw (see fig. 2).
2) Pull a tube sock over the plaster model.
3) Tie off the tube sock below the piston dummy and trim off the excess
tube sock (see fig. 3).
4) Turn the plaster screw all the way in (see fig. 4).
5) Soak the shorter PVA bag and pull it over the plaster model.
6) Use string to tie off the PVA bag in the undercut of the piston dummy
(see fig. 5).
7) Cut off the excess PVA bag with a scalpel.
8) Position the silicone dummy on the piston dummy. Verify that there is no
excess of the PVA bag (see fig. 6).
9) INFORMATION: Only screw in the valve dummy after positioning
the cylinder body.
Position the cylinder body on the piston dummy. Perform the mediolater­
al alignment of the exhaust opening depending on the alignment.
10) Isolate the heads of the cap screws with wax.
11) Fill the heads of the cap screws with Plastaband (see fig. 7).
12) Screw the valve dummy into the exhaust opening until the O-ring closes
the opening (see fig. 8).
13) Close the slot in the valve dummy with Plastaband.

5.2 Fabricating the Prosthetic Socket

5.2.1 Optional: fabricating a check socket
Recommended materials: ThermoLyn (e.g. 616T52* ThermoLyn rigid,

616T83* ThermoLyn clear), 616S5* BetaSil
1) Prepare for fabrication of the prosthetic socket (see Page 24).
2) Complete the vacuum forming process.
3) Finish prosthetic socket (see Page 27).
4) Seal the transition from the cylinder body to the inside of the prosthetic
socket with BetaSil.
