11.6 Installing the Linux Driver
Use this procedure to install the Abaxis driver that enables the Abaxis analyzer to communicate with a
PC running Linux. The analyzer installs on the PC as a virtual communication port.
Installation requires the following:
VetScan VS2 Analyzer
PC with Linux (kernel version 2.4 and above) and a USB port
Type A/Type B USB cable
Note:
The driver is already included in the Linux OS (kernel version 2.4 and above).
Enable the driver as follows.
1.
Turn on the PC, and log in as "root."
2.
Connect the USB cable to a Type A connector on the PC and to the uppermost USB connec-
tor (Type B) on the back of the analyzer.
3.
Turn on the analyzer.
4.
Open a terminal window on the PC, and enter the command modprobe ftdi_sio to enable
the driver.
5.
Configure any PC applications (e.g. minicom) to communicate with the analyzer over the
virtual communication port (e.g. /dev/ttyS0).
