Electrical Connection

Depending on the model, the electrical connection is made
using a cable or a connector. For the connection
assignments, see Tab. 4-1.
Explosions
Connecting the BTL in an explosion hazard atmosphere
could result in explosions. This could result in personal
injury and equipment damage.
► Connect only in non-EX zone areas or in a suitable
enclosure.
During operation a fault can result in an increase of the
surface temperature of the housing and trigger explosions
in explosion hazard atmospheres.
► Limit the power consumption of the BTL externally
to 4 W!
Note the information on shielding and cable
routing (see section 4.5).

If the BTL is the last slave in the PROFIBUS line, an active
bus terminator must be installed (see Fig. 4-6).

If the device is installed in the middle of the Profibus line,
+5 V OUT and DGND OUT are not connected. Be sure
however to isolate with respect to ground and other
signals.
4.4.2 Connecting the BTL7-...-ZA1K
Only the following approved Balluff accessories
may be used for connecting the version with
separate connection cover (see section 7.5 on
page 20):
– BAM PC-TL020-K_ _-4
– BAM PC-TL020-KA_ _-4
For the version with separate connection housing the
electrical connection is made in the terminal chamber
using the Ex-approved connector. The connector must be
plugged in and threaded on before the cover is screwed
on to the BTL.
