6. Putting into operation

6.1. Attaching the power cable
Fig. P
Push the socket of the power
cord onto the connector of the
switch and then loop the power
cord through the cable lock so
that the power cord is a slightly
slack near the socket (fig. P).
The cable lock prevents you
accidentally disconnecting the
electrical plug connection.
Always unwind the entire length
of the lead from the cable drum
and lay out in large slack loops.
Insert the plug into the approp-
riate socket. The lead should be
positioned so that it is always on
the side that has already been
mown.
The cable should not be
A
crushed between doors
or window gaps. Only ever
disconnect the power lead at
the plug or the coupling casing.
Check the terrain where you will
be using your lawnmower and
remove all obstacles and objects,
which could get caught and then
ejected.
Always visually inspect your
lawnmower before use to ensure
that cutting tool, retaining bolts
and entire cutting unit are not
worn or damaged. Worn or
damaged cutting tools and
retaining bolts must always be
replaced in sets to ensure that
your lawnmower is not out of
balance.
6.2. Starting your mower
Fig. Q
Warning ! Before starting your
Electric Hand Lawnmower check
for foreign bodies in the
cutting cylinder and remove if
necessary.
Always wear sturdy work shoes
and long trousers when mowing.
Never mow your lawn when
barefoot or when wearing only
lightweight sandals.
Start your Electric Hand Lawn-
mower as follows:
1. Stand your mower on a level
part of the lawn.
2. To start the motor, press and
hold down the release knob
(14) (fig. L) and with the other
hand, simultaneously pull the
starting handle (15) towards
the cross bar (fig. Q).
3. If you release the starting
handle (15) the motor switch-
es off again.
Restart the motor in the same
way as described above.
When starting up, make
A
sure that the cutter runs
freely. If necessary tilt slightly
so that the tool is pointing away
from yourself.
Note :
The mower will start more easily
if you tilt it slightly by pressing
on the handlebar.
If the cutter or the aerator roller
is blocked by a foreign body or
the motor is overloaded, release
the safety lever and disconnect
the mains plug. If the cutting
cylinder is blocked, the overload
clutch slips and no longer
transfers torque. You will hear
a rattling sound. If the object
blocking the cutting cylinder
works itself loose, the lawn-
mower automatically returns
to the normal operating mode.
If this does not happen, turn off
your lawnmower, remove the
mains plug, rectify the fault and
then continue mowing.
Keep your hands and feet
away from the cutting cylinder
and cuttings ejector.
The mains connection socket
must have at least 16 A protec-
tion.
6.3. Switching off your mower
Fig. Q
Release the safety lever to switch
the motor off. ( f i g . Q).
Caution ! The cutters
A
continue to revolve after
the engine has been stopped.
Caution ! The safety
A
equipment installed in
the machine by Brill should not
be removed or by-passed,
e.g. by binding the clutch lever
to the bar, as otherwise danger
of injury arises and the engine
can no longer be automatically
stopped.
Frequent overloading of the
A
motor (the speed drops off
audible in the working range)
leads to damage to the motor
winding.
