3.06 TROUBLESHOOTING

The proGAV 2.0 Compass should be
placed as centred as possible over the
valve, as otherwise the determined open-
ing pressure may be incorrect.
It must be ensured that the arrow markings
on the compass housing (proximal, distal)
correspond with the flow direction in the
shunt system.
When adjusting the differential pressure
unit of the proGAV 2.0, care must be taken
that the opening pressure is changed by
a maximum of 8 cmH
process, otherwise errors can occur.
Example: The opening pressure is to be
changed from 3 to 18 cmH
method is an adjustment in two stages: Ini-
tial adjustment from 3 to 11 cmH
subsequently from 11 to 18 cmH
The proGAV 2.0 Compass reacts sensi-
tively to external magnetic fields. In order
to rule out unwanted interactions, the
proGAV 2.0 Adjustment Tool should not be
placed in the immediate vicinity of the pro-
GAV 2.0 Compass when determining the
opening pressure. We recommend a mini-
mum distance of 30 cm.
Swelling of the skin can make adjustment
difficult for a few days after the operation. If
the valve setting cannot be checked con-
clusively using the proGAV 2.0 Compass,
we recommend carrying out a check using
an imaging method.
When implanting the proGAV 2.0 valve, the
distance between the surface of the valve
and the skin should not exceed 10 mm. If
the skin and tissue is thicker than 10 mm, it
may be difficult or impossible to locate the
valve and read and set the valve pressure
level.
The adjustable Miethke valve should not be
implanted in an area that makes the detec-
tion or palpation of the valve difficult (e.g.
underneath heavily scarred tissue).
