4. Load safety

A vehicle and its cargo are subjected to significant forces in
a typical vehicle journey. These forces are largely
unavoidable and include acceleration, breaking and
travelling around a bend.
These forces need to be acknowledged and understood
and loaded goods need to be secured accordingly.
Load safety has always played an important role in the
transport of goods via sea or air. Unfortunately the subject
of load safety in trucks and vans has recently become
synonomous with road traffic accidents or deficiencies
reported at police check points.
4.1 Legal requirements (Germany)
The relevant Country specific regulations must be obser-
ved.
§ 22 Paragraph 1 of the StVO (German road traffic
Regulations) states, that the load, including the load
securing equipment, is to be stowed, so that even
under heavy breaking or an evasive manouvre, it
will not slip, fall over, slide arround or create
unnecessary noise. The acknowledged regulations
must be adhered to.
