Checking the cutting knives
Service Interval: Every 25 hours or as required.
The cutting knives of this unit can be turned or sharpened to obtain a new
cutting surface if necessary. When checking the knives, be careful not to
touch the sharpened edges. To check the cutting knives:
1) Disconnect the spark plug wire and secure it away from the spark plug.
2) Remove the nuts securing the machine's loading hopper to the front of the
chipper. Remove the machine's hopper to access the knives.
3) Slowly pull the starter rope to turn the rotor to a position where the blades are
visible.
Rotation and replacement of the chipping hammer
The cutting edges of chipping hammers can eventually wear out, requiring the hammer
to be rotated or all dulled cutting edges to be replaced.
Sharpening and replacement of cutting knives
The cutting knives need to be sharpened or replaced when the branches of the
trees require additional force to enter the inlet funnel.
Cutting knives can be sharpened at an angle of 39 degrees until the distance
between the edge of the bevel of the blade and the mounting hole is less than
1.6 mm.
To sharpen or replace cutting knives:
1) Turn off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2) Disconnect the spark plug wire and secure it away from the spark plug.
3) Remove the rotor housing and loading hopper from the rotor plate.
4) Remove the rotor, removing the parts attaching it to the engine crankshaft.
