5. Maintenance and cleaning
5.1 Safety instruction
Warning:
– Batteries contain corrosive sulphuric
acid. Do not swallow! At all times avoid
any contact with the skin and the eyes
– To prevent the danger of explosion by
detonating gas, the battery compart-
ment must be open when wet-cell bat-
teries are charged. Danger of sustaining
serious injuries
– At all times keep fire or glowing objects
well away from the vicinity of batteries
– Avoid generating sparks in the vicinity of
the batteries
– Smoking is strictly prohibited
– Maintenance-free batteries must not be
opened and must not be topped up with
distilled water
– Never place any conductive objects
(e.g. metal objects) on the batteries —
danger of shortcut
– Before carrying out any cleaning or
maintenance work on the machine, be-
fore replacing any parts or before chan-
ging to another function, disconnect the
machine from the battery by pulling the
emergency-off connector (D1) or by di-
sconnecting the battery charger plug
from the mains. In the case of mains-
operated machines, the plug must be
pulled out of the power outlet.
– The machine must not be cleaned with
high-pressure or steam-pressure clean-
ers or with a jet of liquid.
– Only genuine Wetrok spare parts must
be used for repairs.
5.2 Tank cleaning in diaphragm tank
models:
To avoid blocking the preliminary filter (G4)
carry out the following steps when cleaning
the membrane bag:
– Open the tank lid (A1)
– Discharge the freshwater
– Suspend the membrane by the membrane
bag seal (I2)
– Discharge the dirty water
– Thoroughly rinse the entire tank and the
membrane with clean water
– No dirt particles must remain in the tank
– Now remove the preliminary filter with the
seals and remove the membrane bag
– The process of cleaning the membrane
should not take place in the interior of the
tank
– Rinse the preliminary filter with water
– Re-insert the membrane and screw the filter
with seals back on
5.3 Maintenance schedule
Care and maintenance are important prerequi-
sites for proper functioning and a long service
life of the machine.
Daily tasks:
– E-models: check the mains cable for any
signs of damage or ageing. If there is any
damage, the cable must be replaced by a
specialist before the machine is used again
– Completely empty the dirty-water tank and
thoroughly rinse it with clean water
– Empty the freshwater tank and rinse it
– Rinse the filter for the suction fitting (E8, F7)
– Leave the tank lid open
– Remove the suction nozzle (C4). Clean the
suction channel and the suction lips (C6)
– Wipe the machine with a clean and slightly
damp cloth
– Carry out battery check and maintenance
according to the instructions provided se-
parately
– Charge the batteries (see section 5.4).
Weekly tasks:
– In the case of conventional wet-cell batte-
ries, measure the acid density of all battery
cells. Check the level of distilled water.
Monthly tasks:
– Clean and lightly grease the battery terminals.
– Check the prefilter (G4) and clean if neces-
sary.
After 400 hours of operation:
– After approx. 400 hours of operation, the
carbon brushes of the suction motor must
be checked and replaced if necessary.
5.4 Charging the battery
– See safety instructions section 5.1
Safety notes concerning wet-cell bat-
teries
– During charging, the battery compartment
must be open (illustration G)
– Before hinging the tank (A2) up, be sure that
the tank has been emptied (section 4.5)
– Unlock he tank (A2) by inserting a small
screwdriver in the access hole (A17) to the
end stop
– Hinge the tank up. It is secured by the sa-
fety support (G6)
– The battery charge connector (C8, D1) is
accessible from the outside
Safety notes for maintenance-free
batteries
– Maintenance-free batteries must only be
charged with a suitable battery charger de-
signed for that purpose
– Maintenance-free batteries must not be
opened
Charge procedure (B-models)
– Connect the battery charger to the battery
charge connector (D1) by unplugging the
EMERGENCY-OFF connector (D1) and
connecting it to the battery charger plug.
Notes:
– Comply with the operating instructions of
the manufacturer of the battery charger
– Fully charging a battery of 24V/100 Ah ta-
kes approx. 12 hours
– Fully charging a battery of 24V/70 Ah takes
approx. 9 hours
– Battery and charger are matched to each
other. Use only battery chargers recom-
mended by Wetrok, otherwise no liability is
accepted
– Do not charge batteries after they have
been used for a short time only; charge
them only if the red LED (B4) blinks.
– When the batteries are not used for an ex-
tended period, they should be charged
from time to time.
– The contacts must be covered so as to
prevent any short-circuit by bridging with a
metal object (e.g. a spanner/screwdriver)
– A new battery will only achieve full perfor-
mance after approx. 20-50 charge cycles
– A significant drop in the operating time per
charge indicates that the battery is spent
and needs to be replaced

A-version (self-propelled):
After switching off the brushes, pump and the
suction turbine, drive back to the battery char-
ger within 15 min. and immediately start char-
ging the batteries.
Avoiding total battery discharge
To protect the battery against total discharge,
the battery should always be fully charged
prior to longer periods of non-use. Discharges
in excess of 80% of the nominal capacity, i.e.
when the charge level is at 20% or lower, are
deemed to be total discharges. This can result
in a reduced battery service life or may even
result in the battery being totally destroyed.
Warranty claims in connection with total bat-
tery discharges or destruction can therefore
not be asserted.
5.6. Charge process
External battery charger
The internal 24 V/10 A battery charger of the
battery-version Duomatic C with a 220-240
V/50 Hz (280 W) mains connection is desi-
gned specially for maintenance-free batteries
(dry cell). The battery charger is fully automa-
tic and does not need to be set manually.
Built-in battery charger:
Wetrok Duomatic C43/C50 with built-in bat-
tery charger (B-models). Built-in battery char-
ger 24V/10A with mains supply 220 – 240V,
50Hz, 280W for maintenance-free, sealed
lead acid batteries. This battery charger ope-
rates fully automatically and does not require
any manual settings.
