General safety instructions

Observe the local regulations to protect the environment in the country of use and
to avoid workplace accidents.

Do not modify or convert the shock absorbers.
W
Only use the shock absorbers within the performance range given in the
technical data.

Only use multiple shock absorbers in parallel if they have the same dimensions
and if they possess the same grade and comply with the settings used. The load
must be equally distributed.
W
Persons assembling or disassembling AVENTICS products may not be under the
influence of alcohol, other drugs, or medications that influence their ability to
respond.
W
Only use shock absorbers that are in perfect working order. Examine the shock
absorber for obvious defects, such as cracks in the housing or missing screws.
W
Always comply with country-specific regulations.
During assembly
W
Make sure that the relevant system parts are not under pressure and the
operating voltage is turned off before you assemble the shock absorber.
W
After installation, make sure that the shock absorber is correctly fastened.
During operation
W
Do not touch the shock absorber, because it becomes hot during operation.
W
Make sure that the limits of the temperature ranges are adhered to (see the table
in the technical data and the online catalog at
www.aventics.com/pneumatics-catalog).

Make sure that the effective mass is not exceeded. As a result, the cushioning
could be insufficient or the shock absorbers could prematurely fail (see also the
online catalog at www.aventics.com/pneumatics-catalog).

To ensure an unhampered heat dissipation, the shock absorber housing must not
be welded or painted.
W
Aggressive substances and contamination in the environment (cooling
lubricants, lubricating oil, cutting oil, chips, wood dust etc.) can destroy the
sealing system of the absorber. Protect the sealing system with suitable
accessories. Please contact AVENTICS for more information.

About This Product

The SA1 shock absorber is intended to stop a mass quickly, smoothly, and without
any damage.
The load will push the piston rod into the shock absorber and displace hydraulic oil
in the pressure pipe through throttle openings and into the accumulator. The number
of effective throttle openings decreases proportionally to the displacement. Dynamic
pressure and counterforce remain almost the same throughout the entire stroke.
For this reason, the entry speed decreases constantly.
The spring pushes the piston rod back when the load is relieved. The oil flows back
into the pressure pipe. The piston rod extends.
The throttle bore surface area can be changed by turning the adjusting screw on
adjustable shock absorbers (SA1 MA).

Installing and mounting the shock absorber
Danger of injury if assembled incorrectly
Incorrect assembly can lead to uncontrolled product or system movements.
O Make sure that all relevant system parts are not under pressure before
assembly.
O Do not weld, paint or subject the shock absorbers to force.
O Only install the shock absorbers with the mounting parts indicated in the
catalog (see our online catalog at www.aventics.com/pneumatics-catalog).
O Make sure that the shock absorber is correctly fastened.
Danger of injury due to moving or falling parts
The shock absorbers slow down the movement of the impacting masses. Between
the shock absorbers and the moving mass, there is a danger of injury due to
crushing, shearing, or impact.
O Establish safety measures that will prevent personnel from entering the
hazardous areas.
The piston rod bearing can wear prematurely if the load to be countered
impacts the piston rod at a sufficient angle from the axis (see „Technical
Data"). In order to avoid this, proceed as follows:

Select another installation location for the absorber or
W
Install a side load adapter (accessory) if the axis deviation is excessive.

Assembling the shock absorber
1.
Make sure the relevant system part is not under pressure.
2.
Fasten the flange to the system.
3.
Insert the shock absorber through the flange.
4.
Fasten the shock absorber with a counter/groove nut onto the square
flange (SA1 MA) or by tightening the screw on the clamping flange (SA1-MC).
NOTICE:
Counter/groove nuts must be completely on the threads.
When fitting the absorber, we recommend using original accessories
(clamping flange or square flange, see
SA1-MC as delivered, the clamping flange may or may not be included.

Adjusting the shock absorber
SA1-MC: self-compensating
The SA1-MC shock absorbers automatically offset the various effects of force, mass,
and speed within a range. The range can be selected in the main catalog.
SA1-MA: adjustable
The setting scale has a range from 0 to 8.
O If the impact at the start of the stroke is too hard, turn the scale towards 0.
O If the impact at the end of the stroke is too hard, turn the scale towards 8.

SA1-MA M12x1 - M25x1.5; adjustable
After fitting the absorber, operate the system several times so that the setting
segment is rotated until the optimal setting is reached.
M12x1; adjustable
A severe impact at the start of the stroke means that the setting is too hard:
O Turn the control knob (1) counterclockwise.
A severe impact at the end of the stroke means that the setting is too soft:
O Turn the control knob (1) clockwise.
The control knob is blocked by a threaded pin. The control knob can be unlocked with
the enclosed hexagonal key.

HSA1-MA M33x1.5 and M64x2; adjustable
The adjusting sleeve is blocked by a side-fitted threaded pin and its settings
can be changed with the enclosed hexagonal key (applies to versions M33
and M64).
