The aspirator must always be turned off and disconnected from the mains while
cleaning.
14 - CLEANING & STERILIZATION OF REUSABLE COLLECTION JAR
The jars must be cleaned and sterilized after each use, as described below:
Cleaning
Separate the main components of the jar such as the graduated vessel, the lid and
the float. Wash all surfaces of the device thoroughly with hot water at a temperature
not exceeding 60°C. Dry the parts thoroughly with a clean, soft non-abrasive cloth.
Sterilization
Place the parts in an autoclave for a sterilization cycle with a steam temperature of
121°C for at least 15 minutes (preferably not exceeding 30 minutes) taking care to
position the graduated jar upside down (with its bottom upward).
Steam sterilization may be performed for a maximum of 15 cycles without adver-
sely affecting the characteristics of the component materials used and therefore
functionality. Sterilization may alter the colour or appearance of the components,
but this will not affect operation of the device. However, a visual inspection of all the
components is recommended before each assembly following sterilization. Sterili-
zation can also be carried out cold by ethylene oxide or gamma rays following the
instructions supplied with respective equipment.
15 - ANTIBACTERIAL FILTER & CONNECTION TUBES
the antibacterial filter and the PVC connection tubes are not steam-sterilizable and
must be considered single-use. the bacterial filter must be replaced in case of con-
tamination, yellowing or decrease in performance of the vacuum system. the filter
must be replaced whenever the vacuum system is used on multiple patients. In any
case, the filter should be replaced at least once every two months.
16 - SAFETY FLOAT
During cleaning and sterilization of the reusable jar, it is essential that the float
inside the lid of the jar is removed and later reassembled for use. The operations
to be performed are:

e.1) Open the jar, remove the float guide (9) from its lodging in the jar lid (12).
e.2) Remove the float body (10) from the guide (9) and remove the rubber stopper.
Assembly
e.3) Insert the rubber stopper (11) onto the float body (10) with the widest part of the
stopper facing upward.
e.4) Insert the float body (10) with the stopper (11) into the float guide (9).
e.5) Insert the float guide (10) onto its lodging in the lid of the jar (12).
e.6) Check that the float and stopper move freely inside the float guide.
17 - DISPOSAL OF THE ASPIRATOR
The aspirator and its components are made with plastic and metal materials. Their
disposal must comply with all applicable regulations.
