2.3 Design
The Ottobock Free Walk orthoses include an orthosis knee joint with lock. 3 modes can be selec
ted on the orthosis knee joint:
Free Walk mode: The knee joint locks in the stance phase and unlocks in the swing phase.
•
Permanent lock: The knee joint is permanently locked.
•
Free motion mode: The knee joint is permanently unlocked.
•
3 Intended use
3.1 Indications for use
The orthosis is intended exclusively for orthotic fittings of the lower limbs and exclusively for
contact with intact skin.
The orthosis must be used in accordance with the indications.
3.2 Indications
•
Flaccid paresis or paralysis of the lower limb
•
Adequate muscle strength of the hip or knee extensors (scale according to Janda: 3 to 5) or
hyperextension in the knee joint
Indications must be determined by the physician.
3.3 Contraindications
3.3.1 Absolute Contraindications
•
Ankle movement < 10°
•
Knee flexion contractures > 10°
•
Unstable varus position of the knee when fully extended
•
Valgus deformity > 15°
3.3.2 Relative Contraindications
•
Valgus deformity 0° to 15° (fitting only with 170D30 medial support)
