INFORMATION
The length of the flexible flat cable between the battery and the charging receptacle can be
adjusted by carefully bending or folding it. Only light pressure must be applied when pinching
and sliding down the folded edge. If the flexible flat cable is bent in the opposite direction at a
spot where it has already been folded, serious damage can occur.
6.3.1 Laminating instructions for the upper arm socket
1) Position the battery as far proximal as possible on the alignment aid for the ErgoArm elbow
component.
2) Use the cap screws to screw the battery to the alignment aid from the inside (see fig. 2).
3) Connect the 2-pin supply cable to the electronics housing of the elbow joint.
INFORMATION: The 3-pin communication cable is not plugged in.
6.3.2 Laminating instructions for the forearm socket
1) Fabricate the inner socket using the familiar technique.
2) Cut nylon tube sock to twice the length, pull one half over the inner socket and tie it off.
3) Establish the position of the battery dummies (on the inner socket for patients with a long
residual limb).
4) Pull the rest of the nylon tube sock down so it is free of wrinkles and tie off distally.
5) Warm the PVC sheeting and pull it over the residual limb.
6) Tie off the PVC sheeting and evacuate.
7) Glue on neoprene cell rubber tape in 2 layers according to the course of the outer socket
edge.
8) Wrap and fasten Trolen around the inner socket.
9) Fabricate the foam positive using rigid foam and hardener in the familiar technique.
10) Sand the foam positive (until the battery dummies are visible, Schaum beschliffen).
11) Position the charging receptacle dummy on the foam positive.
12) Pull a PVA bag over the foam positive.
13) Pull on several layers of Perlon stockinette and tie off at the lamination ring.
INFORMATION: To reinforce the socket, carbon fibre cloth can be glued between the
first and second layers of Perlon stockinette. The carbon fibre cloth is not allowed to
touch or overlap the lamination ring.
14) Laminate the outer socket using the familiar technique and allow it to harden.
15) Remove the outer socket from the inner socket.
16) Remove the plaster from the inner socket.
17) Sand the contours on the outer socket.
18) Align the bore holes of the charging receptacle template with the knobs on the outer socket
and transfer the template contours (see fig. 4).
19) Burn the knobs free from the inside (see fig. 5).
20) After burning them free, use a conical drill to bore the nubs out to the marked contour (see
fig. 6).
21) Mill the contour and check it with the charging receptacle template (see fig. 7).
22) Insert the charging receptacle through the cutout from the inside of the socket (see fig. 8).
The charging receptacle must fit flush to the outside of the socket without pressure being
applied (see fig. 9).
INFORMATION: If the wall thickness of the outer socket is more than 2 mm, the inside
of the socket must be sanded.
23) Apply bonding agent to the small rim of the charging receptacle (see fig. 10).
24) Insert the charging receptacle into the outer socket and allow the bonding agent to harden.
25) For patients with long residual limbs, lay the battery in the laminated recess. For patients with
short residual limbs, position the batteries in the available space of the outer socket.
