3. Important safety information

3.1
Mains voltages
Hazardous voltages are present both in the
mains voltage system and electrical systems.
There is a risk of electric shock potentially
resulting in heart failure and death from tou-
ching live components or flashover, e.g. from
damaged insulation.
Safety measures:
Only connect the EPS 118 to a properly grounded
mains voltage system.
Do not let the power supply cable hang over the
edge of the workbench, and do not run it over hot
pipes or running fans.
Replace cables with damaged insulation.
Did not start the EPS 118 if the power supplied
cable is defective. Only start the EPS 118 after the
EPS 118 has been checked by a qualified customer
service technician.
When using an extension cable for the voltage sup-
ply, the line cross-section of the extension cable
must be at least the same as the cross-section of
the power supply cable from the EPS 118. If the
cross-section of the extension cable is not large
enough, the cable may overheat. Run the extension
cable so that no one can trip on it, and so that the
mains plug cannot be accidentally unplugged.
Unplug the mains plug from the mains voltage
system when the EPS 118 is not in use. Pull on the
plug of the power cable and not the cable itself.
Inspect/check the electrical equipment every 2 ye-
ars in conjunction with the test service and rectify
any defects immediately.
Only use fuses of the specified current.
Before installation, turn off the voltage supply.

3.2
Danger of injury, danger of crushing
3.2.1
Transport, initial startup and shutting down
During transport or initial startup and shut-
ting down processes injuries and damage
may occur from dropped objects.
Safety measures:
Wear safety shoes.
Use protective equipment, e.g. gloves.
Wrap the single-phase AC connecting cable loosely
around the EPS 118 when putting the EPS 118 into
storage.
Load and transport test equipment and test speci-
mens only in accordance with the Operating Inst-
ructions.
Use suitable transport equipment and hoisting gear
with sufficient load-bearing capacity only.
Transport and operate the equipment only in ac-
cordance with the operating instructions.
3.2.2
Clamping, connecting and testing the test
sample
When clamping and connecting the test
equipment and test sample injuries may
occur as a consequence of dropped objects
and sharp edges.
Safety measures:
Wear safety shoes.
Use protective equipment, e.g. gloves.
Attach protective cover, e.g. protective hood for
drive coupling.
