3.8.6
Pick List Options
The following options can be selected on the screen
shown in Figure 31, section 3.5.3:
• Pick List w/Cut Details – Turning this option
on will add additional cut details as they were
recorded in the truss design software. This will
result in a list that contains more data than only
the stock length, width, and grade. The list is
limited to what was entered as the trusses were
designed.
• Run From Pick List – If a pick list has been created
for the TRS file, the program will run from the
entries in the run list. If sorting is turned on, from
the entries in the sorted run list
• Sort Pick List – Enables sorting on user defined
keys such as Width-Grade-Length, etc. (see Figure
45 in section 3.8.7 for further explanation).
3.8.7
Stock Sorting
Figure 45
• The options shown in Figure 45 can be used to sort
any pick list. Each category will be fulfilled before
the software advances to the next category.
• Using Width-Length-Grade, the priority will be
placed on the width. All lengths and grades will be
grouped within each differing width.
• This logic is the same for each possible selection
on this screen (Primary-Secondary-Tertiary).

Optimizing Example
There are many ways to configure the software options
for Optimizing. The purpose of all these options is to
provide enough flexibility so that the ALS 4.0 can best
maximize production efficiency. However, this many
options can be confusing when first beginning to use
the saw. The following example is intended to highlight
the Alpine recommended settings for maximum
efficiency. Follow this example prior to adjusting the
optimizing settings any further.
1.
First, set up the batching routine in the
engineering/cutting software to sort all the pieces
for the job by lumber grade from highest to lowest
and place them in the TRS cutting file in that
order. Next, sub sort by length and size if there are
multiple stock lengths.
2.
Set the cutting and nesting options in the ALS 4.0
program as shown below in Figure 46:
3.
Confirm that Multiple Stock Lengths is checked as
shown in Figure 46. Then, click or touch the label
reading MULTIPLE as shown below and the Change
Stock Screen will open (Figure 18).
4.
All of the lengths and grades to complete the
cutting job must be available at the saw before
beginning the cutting operation. For the best
optimization, Alpine recommends using 14 or 20
ft. boards of lumber in all necessary grades. The
selection is made on the Change Stock Screen as
shown in Figure 18.
5.
Click or touch DONE on the screen (Figure 18) to go
back to the Piece Select Screen (Figure 9).
