2.4 Obligations of the operator
2.4.1 Identifications and warning signs on the product
As owner, ensure that identifications and warning signs on the product are clearly
legible.
2.4.2 Assembly and installation
Connection to emergency STOP system
The product does not have its own emergency STOP system. The operator must
decide whether connection to an emergency STOP system is necessary.
As the operator, ensure that the product is connected to an emergency STOP sys-
tem, if required.
2.4.3 Commissioning
• The product must not be put into operation until it has been established that
the entire system/machine complies with the provisions of the Machinery Di-
rective 2006/42/EC.
• The operator must prepare a risk assessment for the system/machine and en-
sure that the required measures are implemented.
2.4.4 Obligations of the operator
• The owner must ensure that persons who assemble, operate, disassemble, or
maintain products must not consume any alcohol, drugs, or pharmaceuticals
that may affect their ability to respond.
• The owner must ensure that PPE is used. Observe all specifications for the
overall system.
2.4.5 Cleaning, maintenance, repair
The operator must ensure that the following prerequisites are complied with:
• Cleaning intervals are determined and complied with according to environ-
mental stress factors at the operating site.
• No unauthorized repairs are attempted by employees of the operator if there
is a malfunction.
2.5 Personnel qualifications
The work described in this documentation requires basic knowledge in the fol-
lowing areas, as well as knowledge of the appropriate technical terms:
• Mechanics
• Electrics
The activities described in this documentation may only be carried out by the fol-
lowing persons:
• by a qualified person or
• by an instructed person under the direction and supervision of a qualified per-
son
Definition of qualified person
Qualified persons are those who can recognize possible hazards and
institute the appropriate safety measures due to their professional
training, knowledge, and experience, as well as their understanding of
the relevant conditions pertaining to the work to be done. Qualified
persons must observe the rules relevant to the subject area.
2.6 Hazards
2.6.1 Danger of injury
Trip hazard due to improperly laid cables and lines
• Lay the cables and lines so that no one can trip over them.
Mechanical hazards
• Danger of crushing or impact or other injuries (depending on the add-on-
parts used).
• The linear unit is not self-locking.
• When external forces are applied, the piston rod and attached parts can start
moving unexpectedly and cause hazards.
• In case of inclined or vertical installation (weight force) or when other forces
act, provide the linear unit with a suitable brake or take other suitable precau-
tions.

2.6.2 Material damage
Damage due to too high mechanical loads
The product can be damaged by too high mechanical loads.
• Never twist or bend the product, or mount it when it is under tension.
• Do not apply lateral loads on the product: Prevent lateral loading through ap-
propriate guides and installation.
• Do not use the product as a handle or step.
• Do not position any objects on the product.
• Make sure that the product is not damaged by falling parts or incorrect tool
usage. The push rod and seals in particular must not be damaged. If neces-
sary, install the product so that it is protected by a cover.
Damage due to excessive surface temperature
Excessive surface temperature reduces the product service life.
• The surface temperature must not exceed 60 °C.

4 Transport and storage
4.1 Transporting the product
Hazards during transportation
• Proceed with caution and observe the information on the packaging when un-
loading and transporting the packaged product to the destination.
• Only remove the product from its packaging immediately before installation.
• Ensure that the product cannot fall down before the product is released from
the mountings.
• Take steps to avoid damage when lifting the product.
• Do not stand under suspended loads.
• Heavy products and components must be carried by two people or by one
person with lifting aids.
• Wear PPE.
4.2 Storing the product
Damage due to incorrect storage
Unfavorable storage conditions can result in corrosion and material deteriora-
tion.
• Only store the product in locations which are dry and cool.
• Protect the product from direct sunlight and UV radiation.
• Store dust-free.
• Store away from aggressive media.
• Avoid mechanical shock.
