12. Cleaning, maintenance and recalibration
12.1 Cleaning the process transmitter from outside
WARNING!
Residual media at the dismounted instrument can result in a risk to persons,
the environment and equipment.
▶
Take sufficient precautionary measures.
The exterior should only be cleaned when the instrument is closed and sealed. This
■
applies to the case head cover and all openings, e.g. the cable gland.
Use a cloth moistened with soapy water or isopropanol.
■
Electrical connections must not come into contact with moisture!
■
12.2 Cleaning wetted parts
CAUTION!
Damage from improper cleaning
▶
Make sure that the sensor tube is not deformed during cleaning. The instru-
ment is not piggable.
▶
Do not use sharp objects or aggressive cleaning agents in order to avoid
damage.
Before cleaning, correctly disconnect the instrument from the pressure supply, switch it
off and disconnect it from the mains, if needed.
Only clean the process connection and sensor tube with a soft brush and suitable solvent.
In the case of contaminated, viscous or crystallising media, the operator must define a
process-dependent cleaning cycle in order to avoid measured errors.
12.3 Cleaning in place (CIP) cleaning process
For this cleaning process, the instrument must be professionally installed at the measu-
ring location.
When cleaning from outside ("wash down"), observe the permissible temperature and
■
ingress protection.
Only use cleaning agents which are suitable for the seals used.
■
Cleaning agents must not be abrasive nor corrosively attack the materials of the
■
wetted parts.
Avoid thermal shocks or fast temperature changes. The temperature difference
■
between the cleaning agent and rinsing with clear water should be as low as possible.
Negative example: Cleaning at 80 °C and rinsing at +4 °C with cold water.
