5 SAFE OPERATION
en-24
&WARNING
When lifting a load, never tilt the mast forward
beyond vertical, except when the load is directly
over the unloaded area. When lifting a load, the
mast should be vertical or tilted back.
&WARNING
Never stack or lift a load, if the forklift is not on a
flat surface. Lifting or traveling with an elevated
load on even a slight bump, hole in the floor, or
incline, could cause the forklift to overturn and
result in damaged goods, falling loads, injury to
bystanders.
5.4.2 Approaching loads
Approach an object to be loaded slowly and
carefully, keeping the forks level with the
ground. Do not approach the load fast and strike
it.
5.4.3 Picking up loads
Picking up a load from the ground
Insert the forks under the load as far as
possible, in a central position (with the load
centre of gravity approximately in line with the
centre of the truck) and with a suitable distance
between them. If the truck is fitted with a side-
shift device, centre the load with respect to the
forklift.
When handling long, high, wide loads or off-
center loads that cannot be centered, operate
with caution to prevent tipping over the forklift
truck. Also use caution when handling long
lengths of bar stock, lumber, etc.
Lift the load slightly to ensure that it is well
supported on the forks, then pick up the load.
Loads must only be lifted during stacking
operations, with the forklift truck at a standstill
and in a level position.
When travelling, the loading equipment (e.g.
forks) must be approximately 150 mm from the
ground and, if possible, tilted backwards.
The load must not be transported at a height of
more than 300 mm from the ground.
Carefully tilt the mast backwards to increase
load and vehicle stability.
When picking up high or split loads, take extra
care when tilting the mast backwards.
&CAUTION
When moving loads that cannot be centred, the
forklift truck should be manoeuvred with extra
caution.
Picking up a load from a stack
Approach the stack and stop the forklift truck
when the fork ends are about 300 mm away.
Then move the mast forward to a vertical
position.
Adjust the distance between the forks based on
the width of the load.
Check the weight of the load to make sure that it
falls within the truck's carrying capacity in
relation to the pick-up and placement height.
Lift the forks to the correct height for insertion
under the load.
Insert the forks under the load as far as
possible. Make sure that the ends of the forks
do not come into contact with objects on the
other side of the stack.
