5 SAFE OPERATION
en-26
&CAUTION
Never travel with the mast tilted forward. The
load center of balance can shift and cause the
load to fall off or tip over. Getting it just right
takes training and experience. Too far forward
could tip up; too far rearward could contribute to
lateral overturn.
&CAUTION
Do not push a load around on the floor or pull it
with a rope hooked on the forks.
5.4.5 Unloading
Unloading the load to the ground
Bring the truck to full stop before lifting and
lowering forks.
Tilt the forks forward to a horizontal position
when unloading. The load can slide off the forks
or catch on the rack if forks are not positioned
horizontally.
Adjust the height of the forks to the desired
position for unloading. Carefully back away with
the forks positioned horizontally, smoothly
withdrawing the forks from beneath the load.
When withdrawing, make sure that the forks are
not in contact with the pallet.
Stacking the load
Approach the stack slowly, with the mast tilted
backwards to stabilize the load.
After completing the side-shift movement and
when the truck is just in front of the stack, move
the mast into a roughly vertical position.
Lift the load to slightly above the height of the
stack; bring the truck right up to the stack or
shelf.
When the load is above the stack, make any
final corrections to its position, then lower the
forks and deposit it on the stack.
Make sure that the load is correctly placed on
the stack.
Then, after checking that the path is clear
behind the vehicle, withdraw the forks by
moving slightly backwards, then lower them and
tilt the mast back before driving away.
5.5 Stopping and parking
To come to a stop, release your foot from the
accelerator pedal, place your foot on the brake
pedal to slow down and stop. Stop gradually
and slowly. Avoid sudden stops particularly
when loaded or when stacking.
Park only in authorized area. Avoid parking the
truck near the safety facilities, such as
emergency exit and fire extinguisher. Select the
location where the forklift will not be in the way
of pedestrians or other trucks.
Flammable and/or combustible materials can be
damaged, and in some cases ignited, by a hot
exhaust system or hot exhaust gases. To
minimize the possibility for such damage or fire,
the operator must obey the following
recommended practices:
• Do not operate the forklift truck over or near
flammable and/or combustible materials, in-
cluding dried grass and paper scrapes.
• Park the forklift truck with rear end at least
12" away from lumber, veneer board, paper
products and other similar materials to
avoid discoloration, deformation or combus-
tion of those materials.
