Fabricating a prosthesis that is optimally tailored to the patient demands
technical knowledge of orthopaedic technology. The alignment and adjust
ments may only be carried out by a prosthetist.
The alignment and adjustments are mainly completed in the following steps:
1. Bench alignment
2. Static alignment
3. Dynamic trial fitting
These steps are carried out in order to determine the best possible combina
tion and positioning of the prosthetic components relative to each other.
Once all settings have been tailored to the patient, he or she can use the
prosthesis for a short time as a test prosthesis.
A definitive prosthesis can only be aligned with the 4R208 definitive sport
foot adapter. Since an anterior connection to the prosthetic socket is made,
a test prosthesis with the 4R210 test sport foot adapter must be produced in
advance.
The supplied Quick Reference Guide contains important information for the
fabrication of the prosthesis and adaptation to the patient.
In a dynamic trial fitting, the patient must be given sufficient time to become
familiar with the functions of the prosthesis and thereby learn how to use it
safely.
5.2 Bench Alignment
Item
see fig. 4, see fig. 5
Perform the alignment in the alignment apparatus (e.g. 743L200 L.A.S.A.R.
Assembly or 743A200 PROS.A. Assembly). Use a laser (e.g. 743L20*,
743L5) for the alignment reference line.
Select the stiffness version of the prosthetic foot according to the selection
tables in the 647H545 quick reference guide (section "Selection of stiffness
version of the 1E90" – see page 6).
Install the sole on the prosthetic foot according to its instructions for use.
Install the socket adapter on the foot adapter (section "Installing the socket
adapter on the foot adapter" – see fig. 2).
Install the foot adapter on the prosthetic foot (section "Installing the test
adapter on the prosthetic foot" – see Page 21).
Connect the prosthetic socket to the socket adapter. If necessary, use addi
tional adapters according to their instructions for use.
Position the proximal edge of the test adapter at least 40 mm below the medi
al tibial plateau.
Position the alignment reference point
al plateau) relative to the sole according to the MTP – floor measurement.
